I was just wondering, why do people go to all the effort to use 0 resistance wire when re wicking? I mean, I have been re wicking my heads for a few months now and even though I bought the pre coiled stuff, I just snip to length, remove the excess wire and then put it on a head before boil washing it in a pan with a drop of washing up liquid to remove any funk.
I've never had any problems doing it this way, but when taking apart a old factory made head, I can tell that 2 types of wire have been used so there must be a reason for it.

You need the no-res wire if the atty head requires long legs to the bottom connector. This would be for things like Ithaka, Oddy, Nautilus, iClear16/30's etc etc. If you made the whole coil from res wire you would have a coil around 6ohms...

Correct, the nova style heads have such a short leg it is unnecessary.

when you wash them with washing up liquid do you get bubbles when you fire it up or a ssaopy taste?
if you run a flame over the wick prior to coiling you can burn any gunk off same with wire it also aids to coiling there is less spring tension so is easier to wind a coil again short legs just wire up a normal resistance wire the resistance being the length of wire used not just the amount of wraps you do so bear that in mind sometimes it would be too difficult and impractical to add non res wire
my opinion only

I only add 1 drop of washing up liquid, bring the pan to the boil for a min or 2 and then rinse with cold water until theres no bubbles. No funky taste. I have done the flame clean before but I could still taste a bit of funk. Like I said, the stuff I use is aready wound so I dont need to bother messing about rapping the coils, I just unwind until the wick is even on both sides and I have 4 wire lines on top and 5 on the bottom (makes sense if your doing it at the time lol) My heads usually end up been 2.4 - 2.8 ohm which is fine for me.
