I understand the WOrld Health Organisation have set May31st as world no tobacco day. Sadly they themselves have a serious blind spot when it comes to harm reduction and vaping. But I am sure their anti smoking objectives are something we can all get behind. So what can vapers do to contribute to this most noble of causes?

I for One do not agree. I was a smoker & just because I have managed to give up ( only time will tell for how long ) do not think any vaper can in all good conscience take the moral high ground.
I think a smoker is like an alcoholic, you are always a smoker just at the moment you are abstaining but one cigarette and your hooked again.

My suggestion would be if we each convert one smoker, that's another million non smokers in th uk and over 10 million world wide. How many non smokers do you think the WHO could manage that day?

I'm in two minds over this one. Mainly because the WHO choose to have no TOBACCO day rather than no SMOKING day. They include all tobacco products and derivatives, which includes nicotine. So by vaping we would actually still be going against their principles.

A person will only succeed in giving up when they truly want to.
The more I was preached to the more I smoked

The more I was preached to the more I smoked Still confused about your negativity to getting involved and the notion of moral high ground. Perhaps we just have a different view about what e cigarettes mean to us, I think they are worth shouting about rather than hiding away. also there has been a study where smokers who expressed no intention of quitting, stopped smoking permanently when given e cigs to use, so your assumption is not quite true.

I am all with you about praising e-cigs, but backing what is basically a anti smoking campaign just does not feel right to me.
I really resented my ex boss he was a ex smoker and he preached something rotten to us smokers to give up yet all the while he was smoking he did not give a shit about passive smoke etc. That's what I mean by moral high ground. I am no better than a smoker I have just chose a different way to get my nicotine fix.

I'm not talking about preaching anti smoking, for me personally that would be hypocritical. But I do think the WHO should not get away from ignoring the almost miracle cure that is nic juice. My life would have been very much shorter and more unpleasant if I had not taken the plunge. What I would like is for every vaper out there to make a little effort to try and explain e cigs to someone else. If only a small percentage of those who listen give them a go, and with advice they should get a better start than most. There will be a lot of lives significantly improved.

I was converted by an ecig user and myself have converted 2 friends not by trying but by vaping openly and answering the questions that they had about it.
OneDay already pointed out that in fact they have chosen it to be world no tobacco day, we vapers are using nicotine. Nicotine is named after the tobacco plant ''Nicotiana tabacum''

I wonder what this topic would be saying if the WHO had a No Vaping Day?

But WHO are in favour of NRT - they promote the use of patches, so they are clearly not anti Nic, they just have a total blind spot when it comes to Nic Juice and vaping.

The WHO have many opinions on many subjects and like anyone, be they organisations or individuals, if you are prepared to stand on a pedestal and tell all and sundry your opinions, then you should not be surprised when folks throw stones at you to try to knock you off your pedestal.
Unfortunately many of the stone throwers do not have opinions of any worth at all, apart from a desire to throw stones at pedestal standees.

I don't feel like a smoker anymore, personally. Equally, I would never try to convert a non-smoker to vaping, so it does still have something to do with cigarettes/harmful habits in my head. Vaping to me is stuck somewhere between quitting smoking and a fun hobby; I've tried a fag since vaping, though, and it was disGUSting! But my gear has never been anywhere near tobacco, so I'd feel perfectly comfortable participating in a no-tobacco day. My mission is to get my friend off the silly cigalikes she uses (which force her back onto the fags half the time) and onto some proper kit!
