Wiping a hard drive?

Depends really on why you want it wiped?

You could just re-partition it if you just want to reuse it.

Oops - its called 'Active Kill Disk' and its available on Hiren's Boot CD - an invaluable sys-admin resource

Was that a pic of a drill?
If it was, don't laugh - one of the contracts I did a few years back stipulated 3 passes of military-grade data destruction, then 3 holes drilled through the platters. Talk about overkill - they only sold spectacles  ???

Anyways, DiscoDes , why do you want to wipe the drive? Will you be reusing it yourself?

It's not for me it's for a mate who has just bought a laptop and wants to sell his old one.

If he's really worried about it, download that Hiren CD and run a single random pass of Active Kill Disk, then install an OS.

Otherwise, just repartition the hard drive, format and reinstall (I presume windows?)
After partitioning and formatting, you've got to know what your doing, to really retrieve any data.
