Good afternoon everyone! Ok, so my order turned up this morning, and so I thought I'd have a stab at recoiling one of the evods.. Spent about an hour and a half trying, but I'm now I've only tried with the Ekowool thus far, but the taste I'm getting is so disgusting that I've now given up until later when the kids are in bed.. My problems; Not all of the coils glow evenly when i test for hot spots.. centre coils always glow evenly, but the end coils with the legs seem to take much longer to glow, if at all.. More often than now one leg coil is just fine, but the other end is not glowing at all.. I've tried multiple methods of wrapping the coil (pin threaded inside of ekowool and wrap, wrap around machine screw and thread ekowool in, pin held alongside ekowool and wrap) but I'm constantly getting the same results!! When all of the coils glow evenly, the taste I'm getting is horrible!!! Should I be doing something to prepare the kanthal and ekowool before I even attempt to make the wick/coil? I've tried flaming both the wire and wick with a lighter but this seems to have made no difference to the taste. Thing that worries me the most is the base of the Evod getting hot to the touch after a 10 second burst (even submerged in liquid!).. I've checked to make sure that the legs aren't touching the sides of the base, what else could it be? Given up for now and back to the protanks with stock heads.. Help, please!!

I would love to be able to tell you what is wrong, but I don't know as I have never used Ekowool. Are you on Skype, we could do a video call and you could follow me making a wick, if it would help ? That way we could make sure that you are doing the basics correct.

Dan You seem to be getting mixed up with what you need to do when you recoil with metal mesh wick. You have silica. You don't need to worry about even glows from coils around silica (ekowool) Flaming with a lighter is not recommended on silica, you'll just blacken it, you need a bloworch (or blowtorch lighter) to torch ekowool at a much higher temperatures, this burns off impurites. Also make sure your hands are clean and grease free, it is often the oils in your skin that taints the wick. Homework needed methinks. Perhaps someone can link to a youtube video of making coils with ekowool which is just a silica tube. Chin up, these problems will all disappear with a bit of application, patience and knowledge.

this may help a bit, but I suggest you have a look fr a step by step guide. This coil head is very similar to yours.

Thankyou for your help guys, I took onboard that a lighter was not helping me and so went to dunelm and bought this; www.dunelm-mill.com/shop/culinary-blow-torch-152201I had another go this morning and I think I've cracked it! Here's what I did; - I started by checking the airholes on the skirt and poked a cocktail stick to make sure they were clear. - Cut a piece of 2mm ekowool wick and laid it on a piece of kitchen roll. - Doused it in the juice it will be vaping and flamed it with a blowtorch (could have used a lighter but didn't have one handy). juice set alight and then went out, Repeated this 3 times. Just to be sure lol - Flamed wick until it was white. (again with blowtorch) - Put a sewing needle inside the ekowool and wrapped the ribbon (again 03*0.1) around four times. (4 at top, 3 at bottom). I used four wraps as five wraps was giving me in the region of 3ohms! - Re-flamed wick and coil to remove any impurities. - Checked resistance on multimeter, 2.7ohms, less resistance of probes = 1.8ohms! - Inserted wick into head. - Dry burnt head to check coils were heating evenly, they were! No adjustments needed!! - Doused coil and wick with juice and trimmed wick. - Inserted head into EvoD, tastes bl**dy lovely! Decent amount of vapour too!
