Yes, it's Victor Meldrew here again...................... & Co-op refers to the shop, not the group buys. I have just returned from the Co-op, which I use on occasion in an emergency, as it's just around the corner from me....& I experience this very niggling occurrence whenever I go there. Once at the till, the cashier swipes through my purchases at the speed of sound & only gets around to throwing a bag at me midway through doing so. So by the time she's finished swiping, I've only just proceeded to put said items into a bag...& while I'm attempting this feat, she demands payment as well as my Co-op card thingy immediately, so I have to stop what I'm doing, give her the Co-op card & whack my debit card into the machine ( which I have at the ready, having experienced the oldies having to re-empty their shopping bag, because their purse is at the bottom of the bag they've just filled ). I then endure the tapping of her fingers on the till & huffs & puffs from the people standing in the queue behind me. Whatever happened to getting assistance in these places?.....The occassional smile & thank you wouldn't go amiss either. When I lived abroad I just assumed that one of the requisites of being a supermarket cashier was to be miserable & unhelpful, but I remember England being a different kettle of worms.....I suppose I should be thankful that at least you actually get your change here...Where I lived, if the change was 5 cents or less, you never saw it & woe betide if you had the nerve to ask for it..............all you'd get is a disgusted look........ Here endeth my rant................

I make a point of not putting my card in the reader until I am ready. Call it pigheaded if you like, but I am the customer.
I also refuse to give my cards to a shop assistant for them to do it, I've been cloned before that way.

I like the co-op by mine, assistants have always been great, it must depends on the management training them chris.
Its good to rant though. hope your feeling better for it.

This is why I always use a self-serve machine if available and working
