I just tried rewicking my protank with ekowool for the first time, fired it up and wow, that was ******** disgusting, like burning chemicals.
I wicked it pretty much the same as i would with silica, 5 coils, flamed the kanthal, flamed the ekowool, i put the ekowool flat side down and placed another bit of ekowool over the top of the coiled part.
Is there a guide somewhere specifically for recoiling with ekowool?

I use Ekowool all the time, sometimes I flame it sometimes I dont and I have never had a bad taste from it. It is easy to have a situation whereby the wire is not fully in contact with the wool due to its flattened tubular shape. I try and reshape the wool by rolling and squeezing it back until it is round again which ensures that the wire is in contact with the wicks circumference. Did you fire it with a little juice on the coil before you put the attie back together to check for hot spots?

I've just got one working great (Evod), it's come in a little high, but just looked at it, and I actually ended up with 6 wraps. So, to be expected. This one works when so many have failed. I think I wrapped it better than before, more in contact with the ekowool. Thanks for helping out.

The bad taste could be caused by the wire glowing cos it is not touching the wick in places. When you are vaping, the coil heats up but because the wire is kept moist by the wick, the wire should never glow because the juice will keep it at a temperature that is only high enough to evaporate your juice. Before you rebuild your tank but after you have recoiled and re wicked, you need to put enough juice on the coil to wet the wick and then press the fire button. You should not be able to see any of your coil glowing. If it does glow at any point, then that is a hot spot and you will need to move the part that is glowing to make sure it is touching the wick. If the wick gets dry whilst doing this, then put a few more drops of juice on it. You need to get to the point where the coil gives off vapour without glowing, only then should you carry on putting your tank back together. I hope the above makes sense.

Just don't forget to make sure the wick and coil are wet enough with juice when checking for a hot spot

And there was me thinking I was getting quite good at rebuilding. I WAS firing the coil dry to make sure it glowed evenly and adjusted the coils accordingly. I assumed putting juice on at this point would hinder my shuffling of coils.
Thanks for the explanation greigster!

You were correct to do that as a first stage.....you pulse the fire button with a dry wick/coil to make sure the coil glows evenly and then go to the stage of checking for hot spots as explained above.

I really hate the burnt taste, have to run for the nearest polo mint or cup of coffee to get it out my mouth

just tried it again, getting a strong flavour from the juice but also getting another unwanted favour, not burnt, just unpleasant, should i just assume it needs some juice through it to 'bed in'?

If its a metallic taste, then you have a short somewhere. The wire legs that come down from the coil are not crossed are they? Make sure the metal cone that sits in the top above the wick is not touching the coil......do you put the little bit of wick in above your coil? I have never had a Protank so I am clutching at straws here.
