Also, what do you use to trim the ekowool? I've tried scissors and nail clippers and it frays really easily, or is that just par for the course?

If you pre heat the wick to red/white hot, then it goes quite stiff and cuts cleanly with nail clippers which also makes it very easy to coil........once you have juice on the wick, it reverts back to flexible.
Edit:- Make sure you let it cool down after flaming it and before touching it as it retains the heat for longer than normal silica.

Not sure if this will help at all as I haven't jumped into rebuilding yet, however I do own a pro tank and have found that I have to remove that bit of wick sitting on top of the coils, otherwise it tastes burnt.
Got 5 heads from vape escape and every single one tasted burnt until I removed the top bit of Wick. Not sure why but I saw a YouTube video about it and it worked thank god as it was really p****** me off
