I wasn't a massive fan of Ecclestone, I adore David Tennant, he was just the right mix of crazy, sexy and superbly brilliant. Matt Smith is awesome, totally different to the other 2 doctors but still fantastic.

I think when you're dealing with sci-fi time travellers, you can do pretty much anything you like, including gender reassignment Probably won't though, but a little more diversity wouldn't hurt with Doctor Who. That would be a cracking episode. My transvestite summer with Dr Who Regards Jez Yes, yes it would!! All those rainbow scarves were just foreshadowing

Apparently they've only announced it because some dope leaked a press release about season 8 mentioning the new doctor and Christmas regeneration. All that about Matt confirming season 8 must have been a red herring. Real shame, I for one would have loved the Christmas Day shocker of a regeneration nobody saw coming.
Ben Wishaw or Idris Elba for me please! take it back to a full season with proper story arcs, cliffhangers and more 'historical' episodes. As good as he is, Moffats deviated too far from the formula. If only he could persuade RTD to write a few.
Bring back the Master (Alan RRRRRRRRRRRRickman anyone?), the Silence, Rassilon and the timelords (who knows, if John Hurt is TimeWar doctor maybe we could see them in November, or maybe it could even rewrite that history) and DEFINITELY Jenny!
(Does my picture give away my geekiness at all?)

I would like to say straying from a formula is good IMO. Stick to a formula and the show will die a slow lingering death just like it did before its hiatus. Yes staunch fans love the show but to keep viewing numbers up amongst the general populace these days you need to keep them interested, not just keep on the same track. The general viewers just get bored and move onto the next new thing (despite new things usually being rehashes of old things).

I think Idris (although I love him) would be far to serious. Ben Wishaw would be my odds on for the role. Benedict Cumberbatch has also been mentioned, that would blow my flicking head off after seeing him as Frankenstein monster in the theatre as that man is a fecking GENIUS. Cant see it happening. Ladbrokes have a favourite on Rory Kinnear. Who knows but Im excited. And I agree I miss the big arcs this season, The space man River story had me crying at the end of every episode wanting to know more.
Ahh it feels good to embrace my geek inside.

I think they will choose another relatively unknown actor. Whoever it is has huge shoes to fill to be better than or on a par with David Tennant and Matt Smith. They have chosen extremely well the last 2 times so i'm not too worried this time, I just don't like change! I hope they keep Clara on, she is starting to grow on me.

But what they did since asylum of the daleks with this whole 'movie of the week ' style hasnt really worked and its alienated alot of fans. I want a 13 episode series starting late spring and a stand alone Christmas episode. I miss how rtd used to give little easter eggs dor upxoming stories like bad wolf, hints to torchwood institute, vote for saxon and even having atmos Stickers in var windows. New producer and give moffat 3 stories a season...thats how he did his best episodes.
Id love to see ben Wishaw but hes very matt smith isnt he? Don't think s female doctor would work so much somehow.

Matt Smith and Cumberbatch both went for the Sherlock role...yes was cast before the Doctor and Moffat noticed him then.
Have to say that I rather like the Moffat version of the Doctor rather more than the previous reiterated version. Would have loved to have seen Ecclestone with more of them than he did. Same as Tennant whose best episodes oddly were Moffat scripts. But hey that is just my opinion.
Do agree this split season thing is driving me nuts but I guess the good thing is that at least now I get the episodes on the same day as broadcast in the UK now so much has the popularity of Who risen.
Love the idea of Robert Carlysle as the Doctor. Would be phenominal. As would Idris Elba but suspect it will be neither as far well to known.
As for Matt Smith I think he has done a great job really. Be sad to see him go but his time has come and that raises the next point.
Living in the States where people are used to shows keeping a stable cast is watching people try to adjust to changes. I had my step daughter on facebook Messenger banging on to me how much she dislikes Clara compared to Amy for hours, like it is my fault !
Hope it continues along the same path as it is and it will continue to grow.
