Shit a brick I thought he was staying on for another series. Last episode was a cracker, Mr Hurt as the Doctor. I really hope they are not setting him up to be 12 tho. I have enjoyed the rumbustious younger doctors and with the kids loving the show it gives me an my younger family members something to get excited about.
I think Mr Hurt will be the doctor before he took on the name or he may be an incarnation of the Valeyard. Either way its going to be fecking epic.

John Hurt, Matt Smith and David Tennant are in the 50th anniversary show on November 23rd. Not expecting John Hurt to appear again after that.
I was the same as everyone else when a kid watching this series but the current iteration with the fantastic writing of Steven Moffat has brought it to another level, for me anyway. Everyone over here in my wifes family are hooked as are most of the people I work with and they are all Americans. It really is wildly popular. The most downloaded show on iTunes here by a country mile.

It could be a lady Doctor next time around, the speculation will be fun from now until regeneration time at Crimbo.

A female doctor would be different but Im pretty sure time lords were gender specific, Im all for diversity and equality but I fail to see how it can happen without elective surgery ;p

Wiki suggests Time Lady as a title Jez . . . so I feel sure it wasn't restricted to the male of the species. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_LordAnd look! They were purple as well.

Who used to be all for really scaring the beejesus out of kids. I say a major return to this, Robert Carlyle at his scariest would certainly manage with ease as long as they have Moffat come up with stuff as well thought out as the weeping angels/"The Empty Child" too. For that matter I think most adults would get some fear in there too with that combination.
While the melodramatics of RTD are fine enough I think kids these days are more than capable of handling more.

The weeping angels scared the crap out of me never mind the kids!
I'm gutted Matt Smith is going, I've really loved him as the doctor. I'm always scared I'm going to hate the new doctor when they change him.

A few really striking storylines aside (as mentioned above), I find it hard to really remember what's going on with it - in one ear and out the other! It's all just so much fluff to me. A new(ish) direction would be great, and a purple Time Lady even better

Always worried when the doctor changes but they have got it right so far,it can't be a woman as it is gender specific.

I think when you're dealing with sci-fi time travellers, you can do pretty much anything you like, including gender reassignment Probably won't though, but a little more diversity wouldn't hurt with Doctor Who.

Out of the recent Doctors, Ecclestone -- Great choice to revive the series, Tennant -- Made it amazing and possibly the best Doctor ever , Smith -- Really don't like him, I only rate him a little above McCoy.
It's part of the charm of the series that everyone can have their own favourite, and I really applaud the BBC for bringing it back to our screens.

Dating myself, but I remember Dr Who from the Patrick Troughton days, loved it then ( even though it scared me witless! ) and I still love it now. It's been a triumph for the BBC/Script Writers how they've bought it up to date, David Tennant gets my vote as the greatest all time Doctor. But I can't wait to see who the next one is going to be.

I love Matt Smith. I think its mainly because he introduced us to Rory the centurion. The man who waited 10 lifetimes to protect a winging self centered redhead with doctor issues. That and he was a nurse. God I miss Rory. I cried like a baby when he's carrying that sarcophagus out of the British museum during the blitz.
