Do you think the high price of some atomisers and mods has a positive effect on how they are perceived in the community?
There's a lot of decent gear out there for us across the spectrum (thankfully) but it seems the items most commonly held up as the 'Holy Grail' of vaping are the most expensive ones. I know it makes sense that a higher quality product will command a higher price but the items we buy are often quite simple ones and made of the same materials. We often find that these high priced items also have a limited availability which suggests they are being produced by a smaller team (which goes partway to explain costing, along with country of production) but does this also give them the added bonus of seeming extra special due to the rareness?
Lets just say a SS rebuildable dripper was being released. Quite a basic item but looked good and worked fine. Do you think it would be more highly regarded if it were priced at £60 and was only available in limited runs than if it were £15 and was available to buy most of the time?
I was just pondering this as I haven't been vaping long and have ordered my first higher priced atomiser and I'm quite excited while waiting for it to land. I was just wondering if I'd be this excited if it had only cost £20. To be honest I think the answer might be no even though I'm very happy with a lot of the budget gear I've bought and use on a daily basis (using an Evod as I type).
I'm not disputing the prices either as I know many factors effect this, just thinking of the effect these prices have on our perception of goods.
Opinions?

Using your example; you could pay £60 for something that has had a modicum of design work put in to it, has been produced by someone who has a reputation to earn/hold, and has been properly Quality Checked.
OR; Pay £12 2 months later (or less)for a mass produced chinese copy made in a factory by workers who don't really give a s**t, and that doesn't fall in to any of the above.
Some copies/clones are fine, but a lot aren't. It's the minor details that are often over looked, and you never get the same customer service.
In my almost 6 months of vaping I have been burnt too many times now by vendors selling cheap clones to ever bother with them again, it is mostly false economy. Quality over quantity.

There are good cheaper quality attys out there, but on the whole, they aren't as good as the artisan produced limited quality ones.
Generally however, in the reviews, all attys tend to get honest write ups.
And while yes there is a certain amount of shiny/expensive = it must be brilliant, on the whole you get what you pay for.
Plus, it's always nice to be a bit different and have something not many others have.
ps, I don't own any expensive attys.

I think there are a few businessmen in this industry now and they know how to market, advertise and create hype. I'm not saying that the quality is not not good but I know a true businessman can make something out of nothing, or something special out of just something.

Hiking the price up to create quality perception is a recognised and widely-practised strategy in marketing - with designer goods, for example, you're mainly paying for the name and logo. The use of higher quality materials and craftsmanship does not always account entirely for the mark-up. Even my DKNY wallet isn't perfect, and Chanel use plastic just like everyone else. Equally, supermarket brands do just the same job and the difference between them and branded goods is often a flick of a switch and packaging, yet brands still thrive. I can't imagine that the vaping world is any different, but there are always plenty of people with opinions and rave reviews on both sides of the divide. Just depends what's worth more to you personally.
