Macs don't really get viruses. It sounds like your email account has been hacked, someone has got your password. Try changing it to something very complicated with capital/lower case and numbers and see if the problem goes away.

Macs do get viruses.
Initially there were hardly any mac users that the people who created viruses did not want to to take the trouble to go behind them. (As most of the these people target people who are not that good with computers and apple only had their fan boy nerd crowds in the beginning)
Once apple started coming to a broader audience the viruses went there too and they myth was busted

Who is your email provider? The device you use to access your email should be irrelevant.

Mac's can and do indeed get virus's especially if you disable the security settings so you can install downloaded packages from sources other than the app store.
Windows is just a more popular platform as it was so widely used, and windows has to accommodate a vast array of different hardware specifications so it's easier for security holes to become present and taken advantage of, mac's tend to have much less loopholes as the operating system is created for specific hardware.

Very true digiw0rx. A marked changing point was when Motorola was ditched and Intel came on the scene.

I Its BT YahooHave done a through scan & clean up, changed passwords and hope that will do the trick Herein lies the problem. The amount of garbage emails I have had from people who use BT Yahoo email recently. They are the people who use the "special button" to access their emails, which I believe is a shortcut that takes them to a slightly different web-page to access their email accounts, via Internet Explorer.
In fact, did BT not recently announce that they would no longer be outsourcining their ema il to Yahoo, due to the security issues?
