Thanks clockworks for taking the time to explain this. It's starting to make a lot more sense now.
The reason I'm so interested is I plan on getting the iAtty soon and want to figure out how I will make my own resistances. I think the wire that will come with it is 0.16 from what I've read. This would be the 22.5mm option, as long as the ohms per metre are the same. That is the total length of wire from contact to contact, right? So to make 1.5 ohms you'd need that plus a little bit extra each side to connect to the contacts.

Yes, total length between the connectors, so you add a bit more to go inside the connectors.

The thing is though Lee, is that you'll find that while the effective resistance is 1.5 Ohm, you'll get a much different type of vape. You have to remember too that the coil is larger than the coil you'll find in a 1.5 Ohm resistance atomiser. Because it is larger, it will vapourise more juice, and produce more vapour, and I wouldn't be surprised if it takes your head off (though not literally, of course).
I generally wind my coils to a medium resistance - around 3 Ohms. Partly because I use my Bulli A2 on my Provari, but also because that I find that with the larger coil at that resistance, you'll produce the same effect as a 1.5 Ohm LR Atomiser.
With the larger coil, the resistances start to take on a slightly different meaning, and whether you're going for an A1, A2, iAtty, Genesis or whatever, the fact remains that a repairable atomiser produces a different quality of vapour. I say different quality - all things subjective remember - I would personally say better quality, but others may not.

I will just have to experiment. I have got the rough idea but as you say the resistance will be down to personal taste. I've only ever used pre made atties so being able to tailor my own will be interesting. I'm planning on trying low resistance first, about 1.5 and will tweak it from there. Thanks for the tips and patient advice!
