If gurgling occurs it usually indicators there is liquid in the centre airway, Sounds like the coil and wick need to be replaced I like the protank but I re coil mine myself as I think you can't guarantee the quality of the heads IMO.

Have you tried the second head that came with it?
Take it apart, put it upside down on a piece of kitchen roll. Change the head for the second one that was included.
Before Re-assembly, roll up a bit of kitchen roll and stick it down the air tube, any liquid present when you pull it back out?
If there is, keep doing it until it comes out dry, re-assemble, let it sit for five minutes (the right way up) to let the new wicks take on some juice, and vape away!

I'm going to try not overfilling it and seeing if that makes a difference to the burnt taste. Notice sometimes if I fill it right to the top I get a terrible burnt taste. Any idea why?

It's the upside down glass of water trick, the liquid can't flow down into the wick because of air pressure. A physicist could explain it better but you need some air at the top to allow it to flow. with the ce type clearos that have a tight draw loosening the mouth piece makes it easier, same thing.

Have figured out a new way to rewick it. Rewick 6 coils then take one off to get them all even.
Protank sorted
Sent from the outer reaches of space using a Samsung S3.
