Thank you, I just think it helps give us ideas, meal planning can become a chore sometimes. The KFC one. I might try a tsp of cinnamon next time, Ant could be onto something.

Just back from Cyprus and I did manage 1 KFC out there, greasy as ... I would think a tsp of cinnamon may be a little much, if anything it's a background flavour.

(from the Guardian article) 'KFC' mix 1 teaspoon ground oregano 1 teaspoon chilli powder 1 teaspoon ground sage 1 teaspoon dried basil 1 teaspoon dried marjoram 1 teaspoon pepper 2 teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon paprika 1 teaspoon onion salt 1 teaspoon garlic powder 2 tablespoons Accent (MSG) I might give that a try, indeed. The MSG will be left out, though. I knew there was some reason I was damn near addicted to KFC - MSG and me don't go well together.

I never knew you could get msg on ebay... Well you learn something new every day. Chinese wholesale supermarkets sell it by the 1L, 5L and 25L drum. Not very expensively, either. Enough in one of those to keep a family restaurant going for a week, I would think. That opened my eyes to how much of the stuff I've consumed over the years and I started to realise that many of my fast-food and junk-food habits were based on the drug-dependency that MSG creates - the drug in this case not being the MSG, but the food itself. Ever wondered why, after finishing a Chinese, you fancy another one shortly after? That's the MSG talking. Whenever I get hit by unexpected cravings for something I go back over the packets and bottles I've opened in the course of the day and always find something that's contained it. Just a teaspoon's worth will have me hungry later on.
