Having 'Trained' me brother's German Shepherd Jess - i could walk into town (Worthing) without the need for the lead - and as long as i was mindful of her Body Language - without her chasing cats or pidgeons along the way. If she did what i asked in a consistent tone of voice - she got love and her freedom - if she didn't he was back on the lead for a few days - and that was the only punishment Even had the former Chairman of the British German Shepherd Society (Owmers Club whatever ) come up to me and say what a credit to her breed she was Not that she was poorly trained before he got her - but had been 'bullied' a bit by their 3 Staffies

I am good at training dogs. You must have felt very proud to have made such a difference to the dog.

Thanks - me Brother had only had Jess for less then a month when he got a job in Sudan - so asked me to look after me Sister-in-law, niece and Jess whilst he was away. Never had a dog to train before - but dd do animal psychology at Uni - so used every trick i knew - and it worked. Only smacked her nose and dragged outside once - for 'stealing' bacon whilst i had to dash and buy a new tin opener. She'll never think of doing it again (full dominance mode ) The best bit was once me Bro came back and we took her for a walk - he suggested that i put her on the lead as he was off to the takeaway and she always follows him. Of course i didn't. As soon as she began to follow, a quick 'Here Now' and she cam instantly to (my) heal instead. The look on me Bro's face was a picture LoL

Great story Dolly. Knowing that her Nan would be proud regardless of her finishing position must have given her the freedom to just enjoy it. And to get those results will have given her so much confidence in herself, and not just in running. A true lesson... never pre-judge anyone!

According to her "nanny knows EVERYTHING" Shame her grandad doesn't think the same!
