Karma... There's so much history involved in this, right and wrong on all sides. I just feel that we should be thankful we've got a young generation of 'royals' that are 'in tune' with the world. Yes, they've got money that the rest of us can only dream of, they could stay in bed all day and issue insults to us 'plebs'... but they don't, they appreciate their position and 'work' to justify it. If people don't like it, then start a revolution... it ain't going to happen!

What is that idiot doing to that child? If he was a dad in a council flat he would be described as a maniac. Am I wrong?

Another person of royalty that the tax payer will have to fund for. I knew this was going to come up and have soooo resisted in responding. BUT... the 'net' income to the UK is positive, the two 'lads', Wills & Harry have both done, and are still doing jobs that the majority of us would not do... i.e. fighting in Afghanistan & 'search & rescue' operations. We do not choose our parents, but this current generation of 'royals' are people to be proud of. This may of course change and then probably, my opinion. But while we have these with us, I wish them well, plus some 'escapism' is good for all of us in this sometimes dreadful world. Yes, there are 'hangers on' but in any family you'll get the 'black sheep', I have no time for Andrew, but I feel they are addressing these issues, and as for the Queen & Phil, would you still get out of bed at the crack of dawn, at their age, to attend some boring function, but knowing it was helping others. You know something? I'm not a royalist and can't stand the ass-licking buffons who crawl out of the woodwork to appear on the telly at times like this; but I actually agree with what you wrote there. This lot are my generation (Lizzie was already on the throne when I was born) and I've grown up sort of knowing them - much moreso than any previous generations of royalty were ever known by the public (even the public fascination with Victoria wasn't fed as much of the minutiae as we are) and on the whole I find them tolerable. Come the Revolution, I think I'll spare them.

The estimated total annual cost of the monarchy to taxpayers is £202.4m, around five times the official figure published by the royal household (£38.3m last year). ? The official figure excludes a number of costs, including round-the-clock security, lavish royal visits and lost revenue from the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall. ? Civil List expenditure has increased by 94 per cent in real terms over the last two decades. ? £202.4m is equivalent to the cost of 9,560 nurses, 8,200 police officers, annual Ministry of Defence spending on food and the total reduction in Sure Start funding. ? The British monarchy is 112 times as expensive as the Irish president and more than twice as expensive as the French semi-presidential system. ? Britain's royal family is the most expensive in Europe at more than double the cost of the Dutch monarchy. ? Taxpayers are kept in the dark about the exact cost of the monarchy, due to the royal household's exemption from the Freedom of Information Act and widespread misunderstanding about the nature of the royal family's finances. download the PDF HERE

fiddles, we'll have to agree to differ, as there is never a 'right' answer in politics, religion etc. on which everyone will agree. I'm not a fervent royalist, but I also don't like the alternative. Now if they could get rid of the hangers on, and yes, I agree the media does go way over the top sometimes.

Well I personally think they do a lot more than meets the eye. They keep the constitution and our civil and religious freedoms for one and I for one am grateful for that...
God save the Queen!!!

That would be marvellous if there actually was a Constitution. As always, it's a fudge of bits and pieces here and there, but nothing collated and put in black and white under that heading. Prone to the whims, arrogance and prejudices of various law lords, governments and other lackeys.
