i got some cheap arse ones from fasttech just for hygiene reason as i keep finding my earphones on the floor(always with bits of fluff on them) for 4 quid im over the moon with as they seem a little better than a mid priced pair of senheisers i had years ago that costs 60. www.fasttech.com/products/1009001

I totally agree, you can't afford to skimp on headphones if you are serious. I have a pair of Sennheiser Momentum headphones, and they out-perform everything else I use in studios and in theatres for click-tracks, etc. They cost about £300 if I remember correctly, but they are worth every penny. I even wear them in bed when I want music to fall asleep to, and they are really comfortable. Spend some serious money, and you'll never regret it!
