Ok, just wanted to ask for opinions regarding blue foam as I have had some for a while but still feel a tad worried about using it- it looks like stuff you use to wash pots with!. I think it's made of nylon?- is it safe when it gets hot? Wouldn't it melt? eek!

Beeper, I much prefer it to the other stuffing that carts are supplied with.
It will catch the atty and singe if you leave it poking outside of the cart and very occasionally it will fall out of the cart onto the atty. If either happens you'll get a leetle bit of discolouration on the blue foam but it doesn't leave anything nasty on the atty.

I tried blue foam as a replacement filler for 510 carts. I didn't like it - it can fall out, it sticks to the mesh wick and melts, and it doesn't wick very well. I switched to using Fluval-type polyester filter material, which works better for me. The best I found was sold on eBay as being "fluval compatible", rather than genuine fluval.

i prefer the blue foam to any other filler with fluval as a coming second. it sticks maybe once a week. i use the same bit for months, but i do rinse it once a week. i have found you do need to get the size just right though. i find just over half seems best. if it ever sticks and looks melted just trim it. raggy..........

I also prefer the blue foam to the Fluval. Though these days, I mainly use drip tips.

I also prefer the blue foam to the Fluval. Though these days, I mainly use drip tips. ive been using a clear drip tip for the last few days, ive never got on with them before but as this one is clear it seems to be going well. i can never judge the amount going in normally especially on an evening in low light. i think as an roll up ex roll up smoker i dont mind the often top ups that are needed. which is also why ive never felt the need for tanks and other juice holders. for me the filling and faffing about with filler etc is all part of the experience. raggy
