I've just ordered wicks and wires and will be following everything I can find once they arrive - I still find the whole prospect very scary; the damn things are tiny before I take them to bits and make them even smaller! Please let me know how you get on Phoenix ..

Well done you guys, it's scarey the first time, but once you've done it youll wonder what all the fuss was about. And if you have questions there is always some coiling God around to advise (we all know who I mean!)

I know where you are coming from, loobiebloo - they do look very small the first time you disassemble. A good light source is vital for me and a bucket of patience is always a useful addition to my recoiling box! Once you have successfully made up the first coil, tested it to make sure it's viable (at whatever ohm rating you want!) and it's safely installed in your clearo of choice, there is no better sensation than the first real taste of juice using a coil that you made yourself! Be prepared to waste a bit of wire and wick before you make one that works (I think I did about 5 before my first success!), and don;t expect that to be it - you will continue to have successes and failures, but the former increase and the latter decrease until you get it right most of the time. Super-Shiny is a great help in all aspects of recoiling so don't be afraid to ask if you have problems (I'm sure he won't mind me saying this!), and there are others out there with more experience than me to help too. Best of luck, and keep us posted on your progress!

A little tipette for new coilers. You will find it easier if you use longer pieces of wick and wire than you need and trim them after winding. It might feel a bit wasteful to use a couple of inches of wick to make a head for an Evod or Protank but it's hell of a lot easier to handle and the material only costs pennies.

Ok peeps, I have had my delivery from crazy wire company, excellent service. In my pack I have got mesh? 2mm & 3mm Ekowool and a pack with 3 reels of wire 1 has .4 Kanthal A1 ribbon wire, on it another 1 has .2 Kanthal wire & 1 has.19 which I am assuming is the pure nickel non-resistance wire? what combination do I use for the Evod and which for the Protank? Whats the twill mesh for? I knew I would have to come on here before I even started.

Ok I'll have a crack at answering: Mesh is generally used in Genesis style atomiser but has been tried in bottom coils. You basically have to cut a piece and roll it into a straw (you won't need this initially just when you want to experiment) Wire, you have a selection, ribbon it obviously flat the wire is rounded. I would suggest starting with the wire, 0.2 size The ekowool - I haven't used myself so someone else should be able to tell you what one would be best. Basically Super-Shiny suggests putting a pin or stretched out paper clip through the middle of the ekowool to keep it more solid and then wrap 4-5 wraps of the wire round it in the middle (of what you have cut off obviously!) This will give you a coil and wick then install it in the atty head... If you haven't already I would watch some youtube vids Phil busardo did a recoil on a vivi nova head which will pretty much be the same and give you the idea Good luck

Phoenix . as gapy360 said use the 0.2 Kanthal with 2mm Ekowool if it's for Evods/Protanks/Davides and use one of these if you have one: (18 gauge needle) and feed it through the center of the Ekowool, it helps keep it nice and easy to handle when wrapping wire around it, if possible also heat up your wire until it glows red, this will take the springyness out of the wire: 18 Gauge needle:

Another problem....I don't know if I have got Ekowool or Silica or both, how do you tell the difference, they both look similar to me and it doesn't say on the package only the thickness /length of them both ?

I give up, I cannot get that b....y grommet back in, I have now got pains in the back of my neck! I looked at some vids and the wire they were using looked a lot thicker than 2mm, I could barely see mine? Back to the drawing board methinks.
