Hey preston I know your workplace lonliness. I am 13 weeks in to this vaping thing...will NEVER go back to the stinkies and it has to be said, without this forum i would have fallen off the wagon a long time ago...all those womans moderators, women are great,...anyway.. I too have recieved this mild hostility in the workplace towards vaping when outside at break time vaping with my smoking buddies.I feel sorry for them,I am bursting to tell them of the greatness but hold back not wanting to appear as an evangelist.I just vape ma miniprotank (get one...ASAP) in the corner and keep myself to myself. Instead of saying how well you are doing not smoking tobacco for x amount of weeks, they ask"how do you know its not worse than smoking?" type of questions. My dad often said"If you having nothing positive to say,say nothing" ... My first reply was along the lines of "54 known carcinogens in tobacco, long term effects of vaping not yet fully studied, will take my chances with the latter and have more money" This was met with laughs and scoffs to which I answered "I guess we just have to wait and see who dies first then......" ....Met with stony silence...truth hurts I suppose.I dont want to be aloof or superiuor or fall out with me smokin buddies (they is good men really, diesel fitters,Ulster rednecks and thugs but i like them, indeed i am one of them,i am technician that wire the control systems of very large generators) ) but they are afraid of the unknown, maybe they think it looks silly or maybe they are waiting for the Chief medical Officer Of The UK Government to say it is OK before they start...I just dont know. Perhaps it is natural to attack someone who is different or deviating from the norm...(that is smoking)...maybe they is jealous.Anyway they are still buddies with me. It did not help though when one of them tried vaping for a couple of weeks and then got a chest infection....it quickley went around the factory that the cause was e-cigs...which exposed me to further slagging...We know better and will carry on. Night Night All. Heineken Is great

We are all fearful of the unknown.
It generally needs some sort of outside push to try something that we have never done before and even if we do try something new, we still look for any excuse to return to the path that we were on and were comfortable with.
These days we are overloaded with electronic devices, be they phones, tablets, computers etc etc. most older smokers were smoking long before the electronic age overwhelmed us and the very idea of an electronic cigarette is just ridiculous to those that are still smokers.
Yes, hopefully in time, Cigarettes Users will be as rare as Pipe Smokers are today and everyone will be Vaping, but E-cigs have a long ways to go yet before us "odd balls" become the Norm.

I once had a cardioligist tell me that one could eat all the 'bad' foods they wanted and that still would not be as detrimental to their health as smoking is. I wasn't ready to hear that at the time. I liked, even loved my cigarettes and couldn't ever see the day I would give them up. Yes, even after a heart problem. When my OH and I both were extremely ill last year around this time with severe chest infections, the Dr. came out to see us both. I was too ill to smoke, could barely breathe or even walk. She left saying that my OH was probably already too damaged from years of smoking for it to really help if he quit. I was livid! We both quit, and today are quite healthy, thank you. Needless to say, we have a different Dr. But the truth is, I don't need a Dr. to tell me that I'm healthier now. I know I am. I can feel it and see it everyday. They don't know everything, that's the truth.

I spoke to a good out of hours social worker last night... She has one of VE Jason kits and loves it. She thought it would be really hard but is now 2 days into no stinkies . I have to say I have a bit of a mission to convert as many social workers as possible but this one amazed me cos she'd done her homework... Comments like "I've talked to folk about the supermarket (cigalike) ones and they're pants - so I went with VE as folk couldn't praise them highly enough" I'm like "I only told one of you about VE LOL" "oh yeah and I know the discount code as well!" I was so impressed and so proud And yes right now I'm trying to come off caffeine but that is my choice

If its not one thing its another with the hardcore anti smoking brigade , at the moment the main attack is on the nicotine front for us vapor's now that they have no means of attacking with the TAR excuse any more, which at one time was the main factor of attack , even if our new habit was nicotine free they would still bleat on vapor is as bad and will encourage little children and kittens to start smoking , we will never win until they have converted us to one of them in their eyes.

It's a typical reaction of the "uneducated", thing is most people don't realise we don't want to quit, we "attempt" to quit to please others, and because we're made to feel we have to, but fact is most of us actually enjoyed smoking because of the satisfaction nicotine, and the hand to mouth movement etc gave us, vaping gives us a means of "clean" nicotine the same way they advertise their NRT products the only difference with ours is, it's enjoyable and works.

I got that from DP at NHS grampian yesterday. Something about other people inhaling second hand nicotine from the vapour exhaled...I'm like - you've been reading some dodgy research But still....I can see them being banned indoors in NHS grampian but I'm not going to worry about that. I'll worry when their policy of sending us all outside in the rain in a smoking shelter causes our e-cigs to short etc....(and if it explodes or anything at that point). I won't worry until DP was even going on about 'exploding e-cigs' yesterday - pah - what about exploding iphones LOL JAne

This particular Dr. had not done blood work, a chest x-ray or anything really except look at my OH and talk to him. And had practically already diagnoised him with having lung cancer! As I walked this Dr. to the door, I said "Will quitting smoking help"? And I was told that no, it was probably already too late for that. This Dr.was already discussing treatments and oxygen for him! I was devastated at the time.
