I gather the 360 250gb slim is the latest ? Is it worth getting kinect ? Slim is best, less likely to break, best to buy from somewhere where you get customer support just in case something happens to it, kinnect is crap imo, get bored of it in about a week. Could get this one: Xbox360 4gb console and buy a USB flash driveAnything I shouldook for when purchasing a used machine off fleebay ?? Another Joypad for co-op and maybe a PLay and charge kit

Miller, what are you buying him a 360 for?
The reason I ask is because if it can wait a month or so you may get a better deal. As the next generation of consoles is coming out in the next month.
The kinect is fantastic, especially for kids, but make sure you have a large enough space in which to play it. We have a fairly large, minimalistic living room (no coffee table etc, suite around the outside) and it wasn't enough space to really enjoy it.

Hi Miller
The problem with the 4GB lies with Microsoft's biggest mistake when they designed the xbox, and that's using DVD rather than blu ray. Because the DVD's haven't got enough capacity, many games require an install to the HDD, so you can find that even just playing games, you soon run out of space, and can't play any more games. I would definitely advise getting a bigger HDD
I wouldn't rule the 360 out, for a 6 year old it should give him years of entertainment, there's life in it yet. My only thoughts were that you'd more than likely get a better deal after a month or so. When the PS3 first came out, I bought one for myself, but my 2 kids were too young to appreciate the latest tech. For their Birthdays that same year they got PS2's for their bedrooms, cost less than £100 brand new with warranty (as the PS3 was out) they got years out of them, and loved them. They've since moved onto PS3's.

millerkev i don't think the price will drop very soon when the new xbox/ps4 comes out as a lot of people won't be buying the new consoles until their price tags drop and better games are out, if they do drop in price this side of Christmas it won't be by much. The only thing i can see if a lot of games will be traded for the xbox360 for those who have bought the new xbox one as the games ain't compatible with each other. If you do go for the xbox 360 with 4gb it would still be best to buy a flash drive as some games play and work better when installed onto the drive not running by disc only, some games jitter if running from the disc only. Last but not least i would not buy a console with a warranty.

millerkevMy son has the Xbox slim with 4gb and a 16gb flash drive and is more than enough for gaming only, having 250gb is for people who want to store films and music and all kinda things. As for running games from disc, if it is installed to the hardrive then the xbox has better and faster access to the game as it's on the hardrive, running from disc it has to search the disc which can slow things down, though it is only a handful of games that have this problem so you may not even have to install any of your games to the hardrive. As for warranty consoles are temperamental things and can all of a sudden just break for no reason whatsoever and ain't cheap to fix and replace things. If you get a flashed xbox you can get games for free via torrent sites but you will never be able to use the xbox for online play if you do decide too as xbox will know you have flashed your drive (i maybe wrong about this as things have advanced). And for games just buy pre-owned ones from game, got some real good bargains and are pretty much in new condition.

Miller, get a 360, with a decent hard drive (to ensure all games play fine) and kinect. Just need to decide if you want to wait for any possible price drop after the new version releases or not, the drop might be, as you predict, quite low. Especially as I think there is still a lot of life left in the old console.
It's definitely worth buying it with a warranty, I'm the same, wouldn't buy it without one.
Flashed means it will play illegally downloaded games I believe. Again, up to you. But it will have no warranty, and runs the risk of getting bricked (screwed up beyond repair deliberately by Microsoft) if you use it online.
