A couple of things:

A GP's connection to the BMA, once qualified, is often quite minimal.

Which part of the BMA's approach (medical regulation, or supporting a ban on vaping in public spaces) contradicts with their prescription of anti-depressants? I don't see it.

A thought though, BMA = GP? Then why do the majority of GPs dole out tranquillisers and anti depressants like sweeties if they are so concerned about the general health of the population instead of attempting to rectify the causes?

Surely the practice of Vaping should be embraced if it removes the well documented health dangers of Tobacco consumption.

I think the problem from the BMA and GP's point of view is that having successfully demonised smoking and smokers in the eyes of the general public over the past 20 years or so, they now see their work being eroded with the cig-a-likes which if we are honest and objective can seem glamorous in the eyes of teenagers. I know that some teens will smoke no matter what ( we were those rebellious teenagers ourselves many moons ago), but a lot of teens who wouldn't dream of smoking will be attracted to the cig-a-likes and feel that they are cool (I have teenage grandchildren and know first hand that this is the case). The BMA and GPs had hoped that eventually smoking would be so taboo that the sight of someone smoking would be a rare sight but now with the emergence of the cig-a-likes they fear that the act of smoking/vaping will once again become commonplace. They fear that the general public will see no difference in the actions of the two as they both involve placing something that resembles a cigarette in the mouth, taking a draw and exhaling smoke/vapour.

Obviously our argument about the potential lives that would be saved if smokers switched to vaping is totally valid and logical but the BMA and GPs simply want all forms of nicotine use to end and are opposed to another means of using nicotine being available.

Just watched this on BBC news website, and pretty much agree with what has already been said. Especially the university chap, I can see how something like that could happen and after a few beers people could just spark up its OK for them so it's ok for me. Personally I still go out for my vape break, I haven't smoked in doors for so long it seems almost natural to me now!

As an aside, I called on my local Market last week and there were EIGHT stalls selling e-cigs (batteries, tanks etc.) and juice. No cigalikes anywhere on view. Liqua juice was/is 30ml for a fiver. Can't grumble at that so I bought some Liqua menthol and its excellent
