Ok this is not very scientific but read on................ Quit the cigs exactly 4 weeks ago after taking up vaping Now bearing in mind I was a 20 a day man for 20 odd years, this was perhaps a real life miracle!!! When smoking I always ran/jogged approx 2-3 days per week averaging 6 miles per run (mad I know). Best 10k time was 51mins. I always convinced myself that smoking had no bearing on my running ability (again mad I know) . Since quitting the "smokes" I have gained approx 7lbs in weight - same exercise and no increase in food intake. Google has explained that the likely weight gain is down to changes in bacterial make-up in the gut, more energy giving bacteria is generated www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/08/130829093032.htmOn Sunday I ran a 10k in a new PB of 48mins, but weighed 7Ibs more!! -so there you have it - not ground breaking or earth shattering news, but quitting smoking does make you fitter and Vaping appears not to have any detrimental effects.

But I do have one thing I can compare .. the fifty yard dash to catch the bus three weeks ago if I'd managed to catch it, I would have flopped into a seat gasping like a beached whale. Now, just three weeks in I just flop into a seat. Hopefully in time I'll be able to take a seat with a little more decorum

I have not put any weight on this time since quitting the fags & starting vaping, this is very unusual as normally the weight starts piling on from the first week & one of the reasons i have started smoking again previously so i am very happy. Well done too bracken & jaysey

I was under the impression that smoking increased your motabilism? So quitting would mean your normal calorie intake to maintain maitenace would be to high?
But I could be wrong. Good job on the new PB

onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-2796.1993.tb00680.x/abstract This study indicates that Smoking impairs Insulin action, and can lead to Insulin resistance. When we stop Smoking our bodies have to readjust to regulating Insulin, which could explain weight gain experienced by most, if not all, people who quit Smoking, I never heard of a healthy (well ish) Smoker quitting and losing weight.

the trainer at the gym has noticed, while I still sweat buckets, I don't collapse anymore and attempt and complete burpees and everything they throw at me (skipping is a killer)
currently doing 4 x 1q hr classes - 2 kettlebells, box and spinning - hate spinning but love the feeling after
weight gain is nil but my exercise has increased - just need to drag myself out for a jog on the weekends now - well done you, I want to do 2k without stopping
