Need some help with my laptop please peeps.

Hi all,

I know there are a few computer experts on here so hoping you can help.

I have an old acer aspire 5310 that has a cracked version of Windows 7 ultimate on it so no recovery disks. When I boot it up it says missing operating system. I have taken hard drive out and back in again to make sure that is ok. I have checked in the bios and the hard drive is there and is top of the boot list.
Do I have a mashed hard drive peeps? If I get a recovery disk from eBay for few £ will that give me a chance of sorting it?

Last but not least if hard drive is mashed is there a way of me dragging off pictures etc?

Do you have access to another machine?

Before you buy anything, download a live version of linux/ ubuntu and boot from a CD/DVD or flash drive.
If the data is intact, you should be able to browse it/ back it up.

I do yes. Cc has a netbook Izan do you have a step by step guide on how to do the flash drive? How big will the USB stick need to be?

I have done that fiddles and do not have any disks for recovery as it is a hacked version of Windows 7

It is a bit complicated, but not hard...

Flash drive:
Min 2gb...4gb suggested

You can download any Windows 7 disk and burn it to access the recovery. However the ubuntu method above will get you your files as long as the hard drive isn't dead

Windows usb download tool will make you an install stick from a netbook if you've got an iso of windows downloaded. I should have read the post better!
