So far I've found evods easy to recoil - what happens to yours? OK, so 50% of the time despite looking really tidy and glowing evenly (I know when it's a tidy job) it just tastes bad. Hot coil taste, I guess. Tonight's effort will be to deliberately put 2 x 1mm flavour wicks on top... (2.5mm silica) (evod) Never had 1mm before, might be good, I don't know.

Personally I just use the wire silica cotton as is, but after its installed I dry burn, obviously not with cotton wool in . I do this to test for hot spots and get rid of any impurities. I don't seem to have issues with the springiness of kanthal prob due to being used to tieing fishing rigs, the material we use for that is a lot less forgiving

Well, it could just be that your taste buds are more sensitive than mine, which wouldn't be difficult. I only notice a hot wire taste when I don't get enough juice to it. So, if it happened to me I'd think maybe I was coiling too tight and strangling the wick. I'd also spend more time burning the wick (boiling if it was cotton) and the wire before my next build.

Just an update on this. I did a really good standard coil on/around 2.5mm silica with 0.25 Kanthal last night, with the intention of getting a 1.0-1.2 ohm coil for a Protank 1 on a KTS+ I wasn't hopeful but it looked good enough and I did in fact use 2 pieces of "flavour" 1mm wick as well. Although low resistance isn't my usual thing, I am pleased it worked so well....no nasty taste or anything, just clouds and clouds (unsurprisingly) of vapour. It's getting to the stage (I believe) where if you have any doubts about the wraps, adding extra wick(s) should help get more juice to the top of the coil.
