Is this THE most stupid question of the week????

I've just plucked up courage to ask this one!!  But it is bugging me. 

On any of the on line calculators for any juice there is always a small extra dilutent of say 1.33ml PG + 3.33 ml VG. Question is why?  If the nic base is say 50/50 PG/VG(and that's the way I like it), why the need for the extra PG/VG ingredients? ????

It depends on your nic base strength and your desired nic strength and PG/VG ratio. So if you start with a base of 36 and want a final juice of 18, then you would need to add the same amount of nic free liquid. If you use 20% flavour, then you will still need 30% of PG and VG to get where you want to be. :-)

Thank you lairey, the penny just dropped and I see it now.........talk about a dumbo!!! (Me not you!).

Now on a slightly different note, to save myself some time, I just made up a quantity of base unflavoured liquid at 18mg nic.. I am happy to vape at anything between 12 mg nic to 18 mg nic, so assume to add some flavour I just add drops to my own taste. e.g. for 10% flavour, add 1ml flavour to 9 ml nic base/ for 15% flavour 1.5 ml to 8.5 ml base nic?

You got it :-) can't work out the resultant nic % right now as I'm on my phone and it's far too late for mental arithmetic. ;-)

Spot on

Remember also that your flavours will be PG based, so the more flavour you add the higher the PG ratio of your finished juice will be

There are no stupid questions about Vaping, just Idea Stimulation, it's from these kind of threads I get decent, basic advice that makes sense!!

Assuming your flavourings are PG based, which the majority are...

9ml of 50/50 18mg base + 1ml of flavourings = 10ml 55/45 16.2mg 

8.5ml of 50/50 18mg base + 1.5ml of flavourings = 10ml 57.5/42.5 15.3mg

8ml of 50/50 18mg base + 2ml of flavourings = 10ml 60/40 14.4mg

emmita if you're using the eJuice Me Up calculator there's a very handy "Nic Combine" feature in the tools menu which will work out any % for you. I'm no good at maths but this does all the work
