I had very bad eyesight and had always worn glasses getting thicker and thicker as the years went by. A couple of years ago specsavers asked me if I had considered surgery as I had cataracts which I didn't know about as the previous optician hadn't never told me. Anyway the specsavers optician wrote to my doctor who refered me to the eye hospital after the initial appointment they said I could have permenant lenses fitted under the NHS. This was done about 18 months ago though one eye at a time with a couple of weeks between and I now only wear very weak glasses for reading. I can see everything very very well from a couple of feet and I was told that with my eyesight I would need to wear reading glasses can you imagine how good it feels not to wear glasses after almost 60 years of wearing thicker and thicker one I think the last pair were almost half inch thick and cost well in the upper £300. I would suggest you ask a specsavers optician his opinion and maybe your doctors. Good luck and if you can go for it don't think you would ever regret it

I've still got great eyesight (touch wood) so not had it myself but i've a few friends who have had the surgery and all have been extremely happy with it.
