Has anyone here had this done? If so, how did you get on? I have been thinking of finding out whether I am suitable. My eyes have got so bad now, that even putting my make up on is a very hit and miss affair!! Can't see well enough without my glasses on, and obviously, if I am wearing the glasses I can't apply the stuff!
I just pray I am suitable for it, and, I won't have to get a mortgage today for it.

I always thought they only do it if your eye site is stable in its badness i.e. doesn't worsen over time. I am most probably completely wrong. You could always try a pair of these: link

I reckon they would suit me! Not sure if I would have the right criteria then. Mine are just deteriorating with age. Plus, I am diabetic which can cause issues.... Sigh... Looks like I might have to buy that weird contraption!

I had it done about eight years ago to get into the job. Best decision I've ever made, not having to hassle with contact lenses or forgetting where you put your glasses is great. Mine was about £1,500 back then I think. But technique etc has improved since then and therefore I think costs might be slightly higher. I had no problems the day after the surgery and was back to work two days after going under the laser. A friend had it last year and was laid up for four days in a dark room wearing sunglasses, so I suppose it may be dependant on person and procedure.

Dolly... I'm such a wimp I won't even go for an eye test, because they can apparently spot other problems in your body throuh them, and I don't want to know. I just up the strength of cheapo reading glasses. However, don't let that put you off, as I believe the results can be amazing if you're suitable. Just make sure you go to a reputable one as, in the case of your eyes, 'special offer bargain prices' are not the same as looking for a new sofa. ETA: Just seen dickyg post above, so please take the positives out of that one.

I don't seem to hear as many horror stories with this kind of surgery, unlike a lot of other cosmetic procedures.

I have to have mine checked every year as we are susceptible to glaucoma. You a very naughty boy! Go get yours checked as you might be wearing the wrong glasses which will make your eyes worse in the long run.

I had it done about 12 years ago at a cost of around £2000. Worked perfectly and my eyesight was pretty poor. It's a life changer in my opinion and can you put a price on good eye sight ?

Wow, good to hear it is still working twelve years on. You are also right that there's no price for good eye sight. Just wish I had it!

I asked about it when I went for an eye test last year....I wear bi-sexuals.......top half for distance & bottom half for reading & surfing the porn sites ( which is what probably bought the problem on in the beginning.... ).......I was told that laser surgery only rectifies one problem...i.e. either the distance OR reading, but it cannot do both, so I would still need glasses of some description......but, of course, I reckon my glasses accentuate my good looks even further, so I don't really give a shit..

I had it done about 7 years ago. Best decision I've ever made(apart from starting vaping lol) You won't regret it. I came out in sunglasses but even 10 minutes after the op I could see individual leaves in trees. Before they were just a blob even with my glasses on!.I had to wear some goggles at night to stop me rubbing my eyes, but was totally amazed the next morning when I could see perfectly without glasses. The worse thing were the eye drops as they tasted disgusting. No I didn't drink them! And they made me look like I was crying milk! They may be different now?

I guess it would be the close up reading problem I would need sorting. I have to hold the mirror so close to my face I breathe steam on it!... and no, I've not cracked one yet

I was told I couldn't have eye surgery by the optician but I'm sceptical as to wether it was purely to keep me buying glasses

Wow, good to hear it is still working twelve years on. You are also right that there's no price for good eye sight. Just wish I had it! When your short sighted the retina bulges a little instead of being a more uniform shape. A bit like the end of a rugby ball when it should be like a football, more spherical. What they do in laymans terms is lift the top layers of the retina then burn it away beneath these layers with a laser to make it the correct shape. The retina will then always stay that shape once healed and you shouldn't revert back to being short sighted over the years. If done correctly it is basically a cure for being short sighted. You may however need reading glasses with age as over the years the little muscles behind your eyes contract and retract constantly to control your focus, the muscle eventually becomes a little slacker than it should be which effects focusing on such things as small text in a book. This can't be cured with laser surgery and is just a natural age thing unless your very lucky. I've recently got my first pair of reading glasses, I'll also add I'm still just as handsome. I know this for sure because I asked my mum.

A colleague of mine has hers done a couple of years ago when she was well into her 50's.
She was off work for a couple of days (psych nurse) and never looked back, although she was told that the surgery wasn't necessarily a permanent fix and might need re-doing in 10 years time.
Like she said then, it's so much safer restraining someone when you don't have bits of glass hanging off your face.. What was really interesting was that a few weeks after the surgery she had lost all those little squinty lines around her eyes.
That was a bonus she hadn't been expecting!
