Try reading Super-Shiny excellent guide to using microcoils in Protanks - that's how I picked up the skills. I use .25 Kanthal and with 10 wraps I get about 1.8ohm, with cotton wool wicks which need to be changed every 3 days or so. I have a coil which is 6 weeks old and only needs a dry burn to get rid of the gunk, then pop in a new wick and off we go again!

Don't get hung up on the "micro" as it doesn't necessarily mean smaller! My micro coils are actually larger than my ordinary coils. I use 0.2 kanthal wire wrapped 4-5 times round a 1.5mm drill bit for my ordinary coils and use 0.3 kanthal wrapped 9-10 times on a 2mm bit for my micro coils both with cotton wool wicks. Both resulting in coils around 1.6ohm to 1.8ohm.

First attempt used a nail for support and as half my right hand is partially numb didn't go to well. Got one of Greigster 's coil buddys winging its way to me so should make things easier fingers crossed.

All the coils in a micro should be touching, and it heats from the centre outwards. A normal coil should have a gap between each of them, and heats from both ends inwards. Juts wrapped 2 strands 0.2 kanthal round 3mm drill bit 4 times, heated and squeezed together, (1.5 ohms) for my new rsst - wow, its like a bloody fog machine! Just took you a picky - See how all 8 coils are touching? If they had a gap between them, the resistance would be 4 ohms or something, not 1.5!

So basically its just that they are tightly bunched together, resulting in heating from inner to outer...micro referring to the gap between, not the overall size!

Salvaged 4 out of 6 so far Glad my post helped someone Rereading Super-Shiny 's thread it is kinda suggested in there anyhow lol, but I hadn't realised would be ok with stock coils. I think it tastes better too, and good for people who either have the 'coiling fear' or just can't be arsed lol. I fall somewhere between the two lol.

I can report that the first re-wicked with cotton head lasted until this morning Unfortunately when dry-burning it before putting fresh cotton in the coil popped, so I'm on to the second one. I ended up with 6 out of 8 re-done in total, so good hit-rate. Even if you can only get another week or so by doing this, it's gotta be worth it
