Just thought I'd try with cotton wool using a spent coil and so far so good. Cleaned up, dryed with tissue. Then removed silica wick that had burnt bits on it, VERY carefully to not damage coil. Used tissue again to remove any other residue. Dry burnt coil to remove anything else. Then took a small piece of organic cotton wool, rolled slightly into a sausage and made a point for threading. Put this carefully through coil so was slightly loose, but not too much. And trimmed ends. Put some eliquid on wick on it and reassembled. Vape is fine and no leaks so far, I just realised read you can do this with coils you make your self but hadn't realised would be so easy with premaid coils. Does everyone already do this and I've just not realised?

I think that if you are using cotton wool you are better off with a microcoil anyway, so probably people don't re-use the standard ones.

I'm bit confused by microcoils, are the just simply small coils? If so, how small? As protank coils are pretty tiny? Tried to make a coil for dropper other day, didn't go very well lol, will retry when get proper tools... And recoil protanks coils too, but think this will save me tackling this for a while.

I have microcoils in two Protanks at the moment, both wicked with cotton wool, and both are performing really well. The great thing about microcoils is, like your rewicking, you can remove the old CW, give the coil a dry burn to remove the gunked up deposits, and then rewick using some new cotton wool. The one downside of rewicking an existing coil as you have done is that the coils performance dwindles over time, and TBH once you have all the tools it is almost as quick to use fresh wire and knock up a new coil while you are at it!

Wrongly assumed standard protank coil was micro coil anyhow as tiny then?

True , will be performance drop I suppose. Most of my spent coils are probably not truely knackered, some have soome nasty juice on them, or have burnt them by letting them get too low so it'll work for some but probably not all. Didn't think of that. Think cotton wool wick tastes better anyhow, could be imagining this though!

Having got used to microcoils, I don't use new heads until they've been recoiled. With a bit of practice you can recoil a head in minutes and they knock the socks off factory made ones.

But ... Yes you are right ... Their coils are micro coils so if you can sneak the old silica out and pop some cotton wool in then that's the same as popping a new micro coil in ..... Isn't it ?

Right enough, they're small coils, but they ain't no micro-coil. Seem to remember they're 5 coils for about 2 ohms. I micro-coil mine, 2-strand 0.2 kanthal x5 = 10 coils = 1.2 ohms (legs well twisted together)

Amazed you found the room! and micro coil is smaller than protank standard coils, must be tiny then.

I use a screwdriver from a Christmas cracker to wrap. Twist the 2 wires on each leg really well to reduce leg resistance by 1/2.. Nice vape with cotton Could probably do with wrapping round something slightly larger to get better wicking, but that means going to the shed, and I never remember when I'm out there.

Ain't heard of that, interesting idea. Sounds tough to do! What's the diameter in the middle, less than mm?
