Quit or die, or should that be quit and die?

It was when my nhs quit smoking nurse recommended the drug to me when I decided to try ecigs due to my concerns about it.

Well that was around 2 years ago now and I've not touched a cig, been suicidal or had any other side effects.

I was put on Zyban a few years ago and within 3 weeks I got really bad chest pains after walking 20 or so yards so I binned them and went back on the ciggies. Probably saved my life. Tried everything from patches to hypnotism and nothing worked. Thanks to vaping I haven't had a cigarette since last May.

Zyban is the work of the devil. How anyone can bang on about 'possible' side effects of vaping whilst this stuff is still promoted is beyond my understanding!

Yeah, and this drug has gone through the x number of years of 'clinical trials' and has been 'approved' as safe, yeah right

Many years ago I bought and used the patches and started to feel ill after a week or so. Eventually doctor called out to me as I was becoming really unwell and he actually told me to stop using the patches and go back to smoking I did as was told and hey presto guess what, yep I got well again Never tried patches ever again

Zyban has helped my husband to quit - that was years before I got to know him - in addition to Zyban he really really wanted and was determined to quit.
I tried it a few years ago and apart of a skin rash it did nothing to me - certainly nothing that would have helped quit smoking.
But I also want to point out this paragraph of the article:

There is not believed to be any direct medical evidence to link the drug with the deaths, but under Medicines Control Agency guidelines doctors only refer cases if they suspect there is at least a theoretical connection.

The media is sometimes a bit too quick and likes stories like that - unless there is definite proof - Zyban can't be made responsible for the death.

I don't know anybody else who managed to quit with Zyban - some managed with patches others with hypnotherapy - most important of all is the wish to quit.

For me vaping does the trick - I know it's early times but I have not had a ciggie since last thursday and feel absolutely fine . But I am also aware of the fact that I am still addicted - don't know yet if it's the nicotine or the throat hit - will figure that out later when I reduce the nicotin. I know that I love the throat hit and having something in my hand to play with. My very first e-ciggie - years ago - was just like puffing hot air - did not do anything to me - but my now vaping gear certainly does

I asked my Dr to let me try Zyban to stop smoking as I really desperate, he was adamant when he said No, I will not recommend that drug to my patients.

So I read up on electronic cigs , joined MSE forum on electronic cigarettes and after 2 months decided this was for me ,and with their help and encouragement I bought my first kit. Never looked back since, 2 yrs ago in march this year.

Wish you well with your quest mikebm think you should quit with e-cigs or willpower, I chose e-cigs as I'm I'm a little wanting in the willpower department!

I remember when it came out.

My first thought was "I'll take my chances with Golden Virginia".

By the time I decided GV wasn't such a good idea, somebody had invented e-cigs.

So I bought one. I didn't work. Many thanks to the "brand" that sells such a useful and satisfying product.

One day, I googled e-cig forum. The rest is history.
