While I was in hospital recently having day surgery I vaped away quite happily and nothing was said but I think it depends what hospital you are in. I was visiting a friend last week in a different hospital and was told that it was against NHS policy so I just employed some stealth tactics!

I work in in rehab mental health where 95% of patients are smokers. I've managed to convert 3 onto vaping. As a professional, its a sticky wicket particularly with the negative press. We have a designated smoking reduction nurse (who has never smoked?) Who I try to educate about ecigs. My main preaching is when I get my patients on their own, and can tell them my experience with vaping. I have converted a couple of friends as well.

I work for the NHS in the community, and as far as I can see the no smoking on NHS grounds policy has gone by the wayside, impossible to police as the cutbacks in porters and security staff have deemed the policy low in priority. I vape in front of my patients, and bring them over to the light side, its part of my role of health promotion - outside. I wouldn't encourage on general wards as ignorance from non vapers may give the wrong impression. Great post, but on the "ignorance from non capers" part I would say in reply you could convert them into vapers, well advise them into vaping Yeah, on general wards it can be a bit more delicate, you have to think of other patients, families and nurses who may not be totally clued up on vaping. Vapers who work within the NHS may have more to do than go around educating everyone of the health benefits of vaping. In an ideal world it would be recommended by WHO and we could have vaping educators in pulmonary and cardio wards, even in the smoking areas.

officially here there's no policy but it will be under the tobacco control group when that finally gets set up. The chaplain can't vape in his office when his boss is about. Doesn't stop him bringing a vamo, taifun GT clone and gooseneck to work LOL I vape wherever I can in the psych hospital. If I'm in the main hospital I vape in the loos. Simple. Sometimes you just need a vape else you become a monster I figure a vape is the lesser of evils However SYHA have banned vaping in their hostels and there's no decent smoking shelter at the glasgow one so I went a bit ape there, then went and made myself a vamo warmer ....sorted

What colour would you like? Sorry no pics but I make them for about £5.......i think I have pink and red and some other colour. I make them out of sock wool. Not as posh as the ones on folksy/etsy but I can make you one in a night (when am a bit better) and send....and then they have matching ribbon as a draw string at the top....they are drawstring (not to be removed) at the bottom. Basically a crocheted tube? Let me know....just pm me PS. I just checked and I also have bright red and orange if that's any use to you. variegated. Lost my green camouflage wool
