Hi, I'm interested to hear what peoples experiences are while vaping at work. I have to go to the smoking shelter with the rest of the smokers which I totally disagree with. After a recent meeting with the HR manager in which I expressed my concerns to being exposed to passive smoking and trying to educate her a little bit more with regards to vaping, She has basically said her hands are tied but she expects to have a new policy regarding e-cigs from corporate within the next month and then she will be implement a site wide policy from there.

Can I suggest you put your concerns into writing, at the moment it sounds Like you are being fobbed off with an unconsidered decision. The written word Helps to pin people down and focus their minds in the process.

The written word Helps to pin people down and focus their minds in the process. Thats one of the main reasons I arranged a meeting with her, so I could try and educate her a little. I fully believe her when she says she has to wait for the policy fromm corporate before she can do anything, I work for an American company and we cant do anything on our site without approval from them first!

But it sounds like they are already implementing a policy, you need to go outside To a designated area to do something they are claiming they have no rules about? Chances are they will class you as a smoker though, unless the FDA changes it's Current stance and finally comes out with some proper proposals. That may be what the company are waiting on, don't expect that until things move On a little in EU as that seems to be what they are holding back for.

I would still recommend writing, just to clarify what was discussed And the effects of this "unofficial policy" You never know, you may wish to use it as evidence at a later date.

I've already got it in writing as she e-mailed the bullet points of what we discussed, your right though i'll print off a hard copy to keep. Thanks

I'm lucky as well I'm the manager and have a little office so vape away in there ! The owner off the setting hasn't complained and had said he wishes other staff didn't smoke and tries to encourage them to vape ! I have noticed how bad staff do smell when they come back inside , and not good when working with children , but it would look really hypocritical of me to change the smoking policy as an ex smoker I also thought gum and a blast of perfume masked the smell but now I realise it doesn't at all ! But sadly I only converted one , no one else wants to stop !

I work as a pupil escort, I don't vape with children in car, but my driver is happy for me to vape and plays 'guess the smell/flavour' Taxi drivers aren't allowed to smoke in their vehicles but, as yet - no local authority ruling on ecigs

I'm a PhD student and a part-time teacher. I spend a fair bit of time working from home, where I can vape as much as I like! No-one seems to mind me vaping in the research student's office, so I can vape away happily there too.
The one place I don't vape is in the classroom. No-one has told me not to and my students are all of university age. But I don't feel comfortable doing it, so I don't. It's no great sacrifice as I only spend 4-6 hours per week teaching.

My company has put a complete ban on vaping inside. I still do though.

So me being me had to question him on it, could of lost my job for being rude but I couldn't help myself. So now he allows me to vape all day long, once I gave him a blueberry e liquid to try.... I dont like blueberry anyway he done me favour taking it off my hands haha

I'm my own boss and vape inside all day long! Most people are interested in what I'm doing and no one has moaned which is great. I try and convert my customers who smoke too, it's mad to think a couple of months ago in this weather all cold and standing outside the salon smoking and now all warm and cosy watching others outside thinking how mad they are!!

I too work for an American company and we just recently got a note of HR that the use of e-ciggies is not allowed inside. Well it's an open office and I would not vape at my desk anyhow - but.... I occasionally escape to the toilett - and so do my fellow vaping colleagues
