I had come to the same conclusion about smoking addiction being more than nicotine addiction, although I feel the word habit is more appropriate. I am far less stressed if I have nothing to vape than I used to be when running low on tobacco.
After over 30 years heavy smoking (40 a day Malbor Red then later roll ups) I have now given up tobacco for over 18 months. That's new personal best, I had used will power (and patches, but will power was the important bit) to give up for more than a year 3 times previously and back-slid before the 18 month mark. The last time I used patches I just used a pack of each strength for 3 weeks and stayed off tobacco for 8 months, nicotine is only part of it.
I currently vape 10-14 ml of 6mg tobacco flavour a day, and have some 20 mg to add as required and no longer get tempted by stinkies I just reach for the higher nic liquid instead.

That was an interesting article. I've been wondering about it for a couple of weeks. I had noticed that after switching and getting over the occasional (but quickly diminishing) urge for a cigarette, that I was able to go much longer before vaping. It could be hours before my first morning vape. I ended up testing the theory a week and a half ago, deciding I wouldn't vape until I really had to because I wasn't feeling well. With a cigarette this would have happened within a few hours. But with vaping I found I didn't miss it in the same way and haven't had any for a week and a half. So I'm nic free at the moment and not suffering the same as I usually would when I tried to quit cigarettes. I do still get that feeling of "I fancy a vape" now and again but it's not the same as it was for cigarettes, and thankfully I've no desire to have one of those now I know there's a much nicer alternative.

It strikes me that the vaping community should focus a little more on the positive side of nicotine. I might have missed it, but I don't remember seeing anything about the benefits of nicotine on this site (may well be wrong): Example: www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0049998Nicotine Uses Neuron-Glia Communication to Enhance Hippocampal Synaptic Transmission and Long-term MemoryExcerpts: "Nicotine has effects on mnemonic functions; for example, nicotine improves long-term spatial memory, as measured in the Morris Water Maze [13], [14] and procedural learning, evaluated in the one-trial step-through inhibitory-avoidance task [15], [16]. Administration of nicotine also enhances cognitive functions in pathological conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease [13], [17], [18], and it reverses memory deficits caused by a lesion of the cholinergic system [19], [20], [21], [22]." "Nicotine enhances synaptic transmission and facilitates long-term memory. " Etc .. Personally I don't mind getting mildly addicted to improved long-term spatial memory and better synaptic transmission, but hey ... that's just me. Izzznet.

Although very early days for me, I found the article very good James. I smoked 20+ a day for 35 years, I have never been able to quit. But after deciding to try e cigs, I have to say that my cravings are nowhere near as bad as they were whilst smoking. I enjoy vaping, and I'm probably vaping too much, but not because of cravings, but more because I enjoy vaping.
