If your 20 AWG is stranded cut a few strands off nice and neat/flush with insulation and then tin it.

Wire sizes are based on cross section. 16 x 0.2 would be equal to 0.8 mm single strand.
1 x 0.7 will be fine though not quite as flexible as multi strand wire and will be susceptible to breakages when flexed but fine if fixed in position and left.
