I had a similar situation last year. Went on to Top Cashback site and had a really good quote, about £86, and have just received my £75 cashback.

insurances - you need to bargain with them like on an oriental market - but 166 sounds a lot for contence only - and one needs to change them ever so often - best go to one of the compare sites - we are with Kwickfit at the moment - so far ok - but we did not need it - we had been with lloyds before - was not pleased at all

Contents Insurance is a minefield! You get what you pay for at the end of the day. I changed mine recently from £156 to £65 as I am downsizing, not a lot left to insure, I just made sure I was covered for Fire/Theft and what ever else is left in the house, no expensive jewellery or anything and my bank covers my cards against loss/theft.

It's worth knowing that if you're in social housing you might be able to get it via your landlord... I think mine is something like £4 a month (no I won't do the maths). Very important and well worth getting

I guess I was just lucky that I got the deal that I did... It's worth going through all the pages of insurers tho' as there seem to be some bigger cashbacks on other pages. Mine was contents only, accidental damage, new for old and legal cover.
The offers on the site change fairly frequently so it's worth checking every day or so....

Recently swapped from tesco to AA for the same reason. Quote came in post at £283 Compare the supermarket quoted £86. (for tescos) Phoned tescos - best we can do sir is £192 ?????
Next year, if AA is cheapest, I'll do it in Mrs fred's name to get the cash back again. The following year, back to me. Etc....
So went with AA through topcashback - £93 with £39 cash back, so buildings (£1000000) and contents (£40000) has come to about £54, as the cashback has already tracked and been claimed!
