I agree with Clivia. We are a community and if we feel a post needs to be disliked, we can either say so in a subsequent post or via PM if we feel it is sensitive. I think a dislike button would only fuel disharmony, and we are THE friendly forum, aren't we?

If you dislike a post, does it not make more sense to outline in your own post why you don't like it rather than just saying " I don't like this post" without explaining why? Again very true but sometimes a gentle dislike could cause the person to take a walk , reflect on their post and change into better human being There can be a variety of reasons why I dislike some posts ... unnecessary swearing, sexism, rudeness, inaccurate facts being presented as truth etc and a lot of times there is more than one reason within the same post. If I feel strongly enough, which is rare as I tend to give those sort of people a bye ball, I state my case fully so that there is not the ambiguity that there would be with a simple thumbs down symbol. If such a thing existed I think I would still prefer to state why I disliked the post.

Hi, Can we have a dislike thumb for posts ? That's it really, a simple dislike. No. I'd have millions and start crying.

I can see some value in it. There was a post yesterday about messing up classified threads which I agreed with. If this type of post was continually disliked then perhaps the perpetrators would desist. I can also see the downside given the friendly forum ethos.

Ok I gather that this may be an idea which would go against the open and friendly nature of this forum. So I will revoke the suggestion Can we have a ' you muppet' thumb thing ?

Who needs a thumb - you could always just type "you muppet"

If your a French English member, a un like could mean one like I am going to apply for a French passport. Seriously do we need one, I understand what your saying but if you don't like a certain post because of vulgarity and disrespect or is irrelevant to the opening post then just report it. Like lairey and others have said we are renown for being a friendly forum so a unlike might bring even more discontent.

It would almost certainly be something that ProBoards would have to implement in their back-end system before AAEC could enable it in their template.

If enough people wanted a thumbs-down, Chrissie could put one in the smiley collection. Would a thumbs-down count as a smiley? Or would it be a frownie?

I could code in a dislike thumb next to the the like thumb - but I'm not going to do so for all the reasons already stated. As for OneDay's idea of a frownie - if anyone really wants one, they can add it to their personal smilies.
