Just asked on the atmizoo blog geordie_vaper. I think if it's running in springless-fused mode it's designed to pull all the power into the PTC fuse and so prevent a battery breakdown; but still, if a battery can leak it will leak, and it needs somewhere to empty its guts. (ewww)

The vent holes are either side of the 510 connector in the top cap.
At least I think that's what they are anyway.
