Driving home from work this evening with my ecig slung round my neck on a lanyard which is really handy when driving, I went to hold the cig and realised that it felt realllllly hot, the metal parts of the tank, the lanyard ring and the battery itself were very hot to the touch, this was obviously caused by the sunlight through the windscreen. I did take a couple of puffs on it but got a little paranoid about how hot it was so managed to take it off and shove it in the alcove under the dash, which kinda defeats the point of being able to vape safely in the car.
I'd also earlier that same afternoon had an outdoor meeting on a bench by the side of the river, this was just after midday so again in full sunlight and again the entire time I was out there the ecig had been slung around my neck.
I'm due to go on a "team bonding" afternoon tomorrow which will be outdoors the whole time and had been planning to take my spinner and protank set up as we won't be moving around much (curry & drinkies in the garden) I'm wondering how safe they are in direct sunlight?

Hi Snow, hope your okay.
If the ecig was a button job, could it not be that while your driving that the button might of been firing while you was sitting back.

IIRC shouldn't leave in direct sunlight or parked car on a hot day. You should be OK if you just keep it in the shade when not vaping.

Hi stamina yeah I'm good thanks, no the battery was definitely not firing, I have done that a couple of times - including at a meeting when I leaned forwards and mashed it against the desk and then wondered why I was crackling and fizzing lol the sun coming through the glass was pretty fierce this evening, my in car temp was reading 28 degrees with the sunroof and windows open! The actual metal C ring on the lanyard was boiling hot to the touch as well as the battery. I tried just holding it in my hand but thats not ideal when driving and I didn't want to put it on the passenger seat as thats still in sunlight - I used to have to put my lighter down in the cup holder when I had stinkies in the car for the same reason.

Snow. Sorry you had trouble but its hard to guess why it happened to ya, unless the sun had some direct effect on it, but since I am not a physicist I don't have any more answers, others may have better ideas.
Glad your okay.
Vaping Bad seems to have the answer

Mine sits between my legs when I'm driving, not sure that would work for a lady though lol

You can get e-Cig holders that go in cup holders, you could bodge one up with a disposable coffee cup lined with some foam or bubble wrap held in with sellotape. pink from FT

I always make a point of placing my PV in the shaded side of the car when parking up for any length of time. I also aim for the shady parking space as it saves on running the A/C to cool the car down when I get in!! Batteries don't like the direct hot sunlight at this time of year, so it would be prudent of you to store in the shade whenever you can. Not sure what you can do about your lanyard problem though - I hold mine in my hand whilst driving, but put it in the central console where it is usually out of direct sun when I can.

Don't worry snow me and wibble have got this. wibble I'll grab the oxy acetylene torch, you source some liquid nitrogen and 2 foot of copper piping, I'll put the A-Team theme tune on and we need someone to film a spliced together clip of us creating a liquid nitrogen filled cooling coil... Failing that wibble how's about a little cocktail umbrella blue tacked onto it? Whichevers easier

Did the same sort of thing snow. I left my vtr in the sun whilst doing some DIY for me mam when we had the fist spell of nice weather. When I took a break and picked it up it was so hot I nearly dropped it on my foot. That would have been a trip to A&E for sure. Safe temps for batteries is about 60c which is pretty hot. I would keep it from sitting in the sun for long periods.

Right .. 1st idea snow ! You get the idea ... cup in the cup holder with a few plastic ice cubes to keep the temperature down (or you could use that fancy reflective stuff for windscreens but I don't have any of that !) I am prepared to sell this idea for £5.50 + P&P (far more reasonable than £12 I think you'll agree ? I'm sure dalealan could come up with an alternative, but this is the daftversion 1
