Whilst walking with the Mrs down a nice quiet street, wide pavements, gardens either side, we saw three magpies at an intersection. They WERE on the pavement and were bustling all over the place. I noticed one that kept popping back a bit whilst the other two were going at it hammer and tongs. (fighting that is ) Suddenly, a cat from the other side of the street came speeding over to them. It ignored the one that was not participating in the bout and went for the one that was lying lower on the pavement. It was on it's back or side, losing I guess. It pounced, snatched it in it's jaws and streaked back across the street into a garden. In all the cat was in view for less than five seconds. We carried on walking down the street. What else could we do? I like cats, my wife does not. I can understand why she does not. Ultimately they are predators. But what the hell!! So are we.
