THIS is a good article showing what happens with battery connections, it's for a 510 but an Ego is essentially a 510 with a extra thread on the outside.

As to the parts:

Connector, showing the "grommet" or rubber insulator



In the image below is shows how the grommet keeps the positive and negative connections apart if these 2 touch you get a short or "low Load"



I suspect that you have compressed the connector grommet in your 2 tanks that you are using and/or the grommet in your battery connector by over tightening.

Both are easily corrected.
