Newbie thread suggestion

Would it an idea to have a stickied thread where all newbies could post to say 'Hi' in, it may be useful for new joiners to be able to reference one post as well? Don't know what everyone else thinks - good idea or bad?

I read it the same as you did, Chrissie. If I understand you correctly, PeeKay, we already have such a thread.

I thought that a single 'Hi All' thread may make life a little easier for us to navigate when we've responded to a particular 'Hi All' thread, and have to sift through 6 to make sure, and also for the newbies as they can be directed there first - a single point of reference for all the tips we always give the new starters.

Just a thought. Like I said, good or bad idea. Maybe the excitement factor does kick in a little...

My two cents worth. Having been online for years, and active on various boards the one thing that really struck me about this community, especially in this section, was the fact that folks could easily start up their own thread with their own intro and question/problem and not get a typical "online" response of "use the search", its a "already been answerd" reply.

I came to the forum because I needed "immediate" in my view help and got it. The folks around here display huge amounts of patience and really take the time to read people's posts. I'm rambling now, but to make my point the lack of very formal rules in this part of the forum is in my opinion good

I think although the long welcome thread we can all post in is useful for those who just wanna say hi and read without the chat is very handy to have. The option to make your own thread immediatly is a very welcome option too.

E-cigs much like humans are very individual, and what works for one doesnt always work for another. Everyones story and reasons are different and need their own place to be heard and advice given.

Some folks are happy to wait a week to get a reply, other folks need the immediate "I've got my finger on the buy button" comments.

It's a very big world the e-cig world .....

I've tried to give new members & even lurkers as many options as possible As Jemima says, they can just say hi (or not) on the welcome thread & then just check out the pics & vid & how to get started thread. For many, that may be enough to help them. But for others it wont be. Hence the thread in the forum help category - allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=help&thread=4067&page=1#91823

My main aim of this forum has always been to try & help people get to know more about e-cigs & help them get the best available at the best price.

Above all though, I never want to put anyone off posting & asking for help. It doesn't matter if the same questions are asked a million times

like Andrew said the one thing this forum and its members can pride themselves on is not being like the 'usual' forums... i hate it when you get the replys on other forums like 'this has been answered a million times use the search button' because its takes these people just as long to answer with a snide comment than just give the advice required in the first place. Also the people that feel the need to flame someone for as they say hi jacking the post gggrrrrrrrr

forums should be IMO a helpful pleasant place that no one needs to feel scared or intimidated to ask questions or just chit chat and we do a fantastic job at doing just that ... huge pat on the back and group hug for the AAE-C posse

Letting peeps start their own hi thread has two benefits:

i) you don't need to wade through a 50+ page single hi thread to find stuff out

ii) it's a good place for newbies to track their own progress (as I did).

That answer bugs the hell outta me too, it seems like most forums have their search criteria set at a minimum of 4 letters and all common words taken out of the search (the and are for example), so if your trying to search for some information about something like say a bud atomizer, the search engine only recognizes the atomizer word or says that one or more of your search criteria is to small grrrrrrr and fricken useless to anyone trying to learn

It's so rude to trot that out let alone anything else . . . people have very short memories sometimes ( about anything new to them ) and seem to forget that what is now second nature to them, is like climbing a mountain for a new user.

talking of short memories .. lol .. in fairness to the Op I did find this forum awkward to navigate WHEN I first started using it ... that said as I have been here a little while now , it's not as bad ..
I'm still learning and will continue to do so ... please don't assume that everyone knows what they are doing it's just the same as saying "try searching "
