you can work with wood all your life mate and miss loads of good things in it but I have an eye for these things always looking for the fantastic piece of wood pity you missed it mate but like you say life is a learning curve and you managed to make a good mod out of it so all is good and you will only get better I cant believe you missed the picture of the "Spaniel" just below the fire button on picture 12.

Very nice dude as a first attempt at a wooden mod, the finish ie edges, seams , joins etc as lush.
But I have a few questions
A) how much wood could you lose from your first attempt to get it smaller?
B) is it possible to make a wooden tube mod?
C) if A and B were possible would you sell them ?
Cheers mr p

Cheers mr p Thanks Mr P. It would be difficult to make it smaller due to the walls needing to be thicker than the metal equivalent. lash151 makes some stunning wooden tube mods here:- allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/thread/39994/18350-mor-crann-exceptional-wood?page=1&scrollTo=693117I need to get more proficient with my woodworking skills before I get to the point where I would be happy to sell them. What I did not show in the photos, was the wasted blanks I went through to get to this point

Greigster , thanks for the reply Regarding thickness , is it possible to use thinner panels but then use some thin reinforcing material on the inner panels to give strength ? I'm not a techie so excuse the dumb question lol

I'm not a techie so excuse the dumb question lol No questions are dumb Mr P. Yes it could be done. You could, in theory, cover any mod with veneer but I am not sure it would last or look good after a while. The great thing about natural solid wood is the ability to make good any dings or dents, and even the ones that cant be made good, will just enhance the beauty and patina of the mod. If all else fails, you can cover it with metal cogs, bits of copper pipe or a Tesco shopping trolley and call it "Steam Punk"

After giving a lot of thought to Ronaldo`s advice regarding seeing things within the grain of wood, I decided to check some other offcut pieces knocking about in my man cave. Here is the first:- Hmm, not sure if there is a rabbit or maybe a mouse there. I think you can see a monkey or maybe a gorilla ??? Then the third one hit me and I couldn't believe it. You may have to look very hard but I swear I can see the QE2 or is it the Taj Mahal?
