Hi everyone, I've decided to kick smoking in the head after a long long time. I never fancied the patches, the gum or anything the doctor recommends, I just want a substitute that is healthier and more people friendly. A friend of mine is still using his after 14 months but he says it's his dummy & will keep on using it even though he's down to the weakest nicotine strength. My cousin & wife used theirs constantly for 6 months and only use theirs now very occasionally, so I can see that the E-Cigs really do work. So now I'm on the hunt for a starter kit but with so many out there my head's in a spin. Could any of you 'hardcore' vaping experts give me any help as to what to look at, what to look for, pro's, con's, where to buy, best juices, what strength, flavours etc......I'm a roll my own, 20 a dayer and I really don't have a clue where to start with the vaping adventure, although I'm a little apprehensive, I'm also a little excited at the prospect of dragging myself into the non smoking 21st Century!! Thanks in advance Shaun

Ello weewah - you have come to a brilliant place full of helpful people to guide you on your adventure! Have a look at www.myepack.co.uk because they are very cheap and the service is exceptional. I started with the Evod Starter kit (2 devices & batteries, charger, coils/wicks) and you can choose your favourite colours. I like them a lot, and bought a few of the starter packs. Flavours-wise - are you desperate for tobacco taste or are you willing to branch out & go fruity/spicy/minty? Enjoy this place - it's a haven of knowledge & friendliness!

Thank you for the welcome CC. I'll have a look at that website in a mo. I've got this 'thing' in my head that is it false economy to go the EBay or Amazon way or should it not matter? I mean are there 'dodgy' deals out there or are the vapour pens much of a muchness. Not being the luckiest fella in the world, I'd probably end up with one that didn't do what it said on the tin!! I use slim filters when I roll a smoke & recently had some menthol one's which were ok after the first few drags. So no, I'm up for different flavours I was looking at a 2x kit but I can't get my head around wicks & coils....Does the Evod have them? .....Oh my head's hurting

Thanks in advance Shaun Big welcome to you Shaun, you won't regret coming here, everyone has been so friendly and helpful to me, I've learned lots of valuable tips in one week. I smoked roll ups for over 40 years but haven't even felt tempted to go back to smoking since I switched to vaping last weekend. There are so many options out there, far more than I ever imagined but someone here will always be on hand to help if you get overwhelmed. I'm too new to advise you on what to choose but one mistake I made was that when I bought my first started kit I only bought tobacco flavour juices, I wrongly assumed I would need just tobacco to ward off the cravings. You do need SOME tobacco flavours, but I would suggest including a few others as well, such as fruit, coffee, minty, depending on your taste. That way you will have your tobacco replacement and you can try mixing a few drops of another flavour with it so see how you like it. Just as an example - I'm mixing Virginia tobacco with a few drops of cappuccino and a few drops of vanilla. The figuring out of which to mix and having something to do with your hands actually helps distract you from wanting to smoke, or at least that's what has helped me. You will get the hang of it in no time and never look back. Congrats on deciding to make the switch

But that'll change by next week with all you guys willing to help and advise

Welcome weewahThere are some great kits out there these days. I don't use ebay, and it was explained (yet again) on the USA forum that if you use ebay and it goes wrong, ebay/paypal will not help you. I was a roll-up smoker and wasted hundreds of pounds on products that look like a cigarette and are only marginally better than puffing on a plastic straw. Get a decent eGo (evod) double kit and get going...

Hi weewah and a very warm to the forum from me too. The starter kit CaptainChaos has mentioned is a great start. The kit comprises of 2 batteries and 2 tanks (clearomisers). All clearomisers have wicks and coils. The disposable ones are false economy... as soon as the coil has had it, you have to replace the entire tank (at least £3-£4 a pop) whereas with the ones linked, you just unscrew the base, unscrew the head and screw in a new one (less than £2 a pop) Ebay are not a good idea to buy from as e-cigs are on their banned list, so if you were to have problems, you wouldn't be covered by the eBay guarantees. Myepack linked to above are a well respected vendor and you will find many people will recommend them to all newbies. As far as juice is concerned, there are 3 elements to consider... 1) Flavour, 2) Nicotine Strength and 3) PG/VG ratio. Flavour is self explanatory, although I will add, do not expect any juice to taste like a ciggie. You can get a decent tobacco facsimile, but as there is no combustion involved, you won't get the same ashtray taste, and let's face it, who wants to? Get a few flavours you wouldn't immediately think of vaping, you may find some will surprise you. Nicotine strength - with a 20 rollie a day habit, I'd recommend a combination of 18mg and 24mg. The 24mg particularly when you have a bit of a wobble or a very stressful event, PG/VG ratio - these are the dilutants in the juice. PG gives throat hit and carries flavours slightly better (although I've never really noticed a difference myself) and VG gives you vapour and is very slightly sweeter... there is something very satisfying about blowing clouds of vapour! The only other thing I'd mention is the act of vaping is different to smoking. With vaping, you need to take a long slow draw (as opposed to the short heavy drags you'd give a ciggie) and hold the vapour in your mouth for a few seconds before inhaling, otherwise you are likely to have the mother of all coughing fits. Last but not least, enjoy! Do not worry about asking as many questions as you need to, no-one here minds a jot.
