OH didn't damage his tool but he couldn't get the top cap off with a pair of water pump plyers lol! Interestingly, the power seems to be coming back a bit but it's intermittant as yet. Hopefully it will carry on improving, I can't help but think it's been feeling all the concern from the lovely aaec members and decided that life might be worth living after all I'll see how it gets on over the next few days, thanks to everyone who tried to help

B&Q (cheaper on eBay) do Baby Boa Constrictor grips which are good for seized tubes & atties, but need 2 really, might not be quite strong enough for this though not sure. (don't forget to tag to OP VB autumntwist32)

We have a victory Got the top cap off with a huge mallet and a chisel lol . The wire was intact but it was totally cacked in e liquid in there and it was on the circuit board too. After a bit of deliberation, we decided to go s**t or bust and give it a bath in Isopropyl alcohol, just put in a tub of the stuff and gently shook it around a bit. Took it out and left it a while for IA to evaporate and now it's chugging away like a good 'un . It feels really empowering to bloomin fix something, I'm chuffed to bits!! Thank you everyone here who helped us, it would still be poorly without the input from you lovely guys
