So I decided to etch my 4nine clone. Chopped it down to 49mm a few weeks ago as 51mm was bugging me . Drilled some vent holes as that was bugging me too then doodled a pattern on it and masked the threads with nail varnish and chucked it in some ferric chloride to etch the pattern on.

No talent needed @tubthumper , Just splat some nail varnish on something made of metal and chuck in some etch solution for 1/2 hour to 40 mins and then wash the nail varnish off . Looks tat when you put the nail varnish on but always seams to look ok in the end

How long do i dip in ferric chloride. Where do i get ferric chloride.

The ferric eats anything you havn`t masked so mask all threads or anything that needs to be the same tolerance as it was to begin with. Never tried etching anything but stainless so if anything is copper or brass be very careful and keep a good eye on the part as ferric is what you use to desolve copper on pcb`s so copper mods will vanish altogether if left too long. You can buy ferric off ebay for about £8.00 ish for 1/2 liter , you want some sort of glass or plastic container to store it in (no metal lid as it will dissolve) After etching wash well in water then remove nail varnish with nail varnish remover and buff the part with scotch brite or a kitchen scourer etc as the etched bits can go quite black with smut . Jobs a good one

If I ever get round to buying a mod this might be something I might actually try. Welllll after I'd spent 3 month deliberating on the design i would
