Hi all after a little while building my own coils, I thought I would try the NV coils for the second time. I think I posted in another thread that I was going a funny taste. Well today I tried again cause I've got two of the heads here which weren't cheap! And if figured out that the foul taste is burning rubber. Looking at the head, I am assuming it is the seal at the bottom which is rubber and most coils now use silicone instead. Question is, do you think it possible to reseat the coil into a coil housing with silicone or just put it down to another experience. My thoughts being usually when you remove the bottom pin and seal, the coil usually falls out

Mrsmac you could try threading/putting a blunt mixing needle through the coil before you remove the bottom pin to hold it in place. Be very careful to pull the 'legs' of the coil into position with tweezers before you put the bottom pin back in. Worth a try if the coils are no good for you as they are

if I recall correctly?.. naturevape coils are made in nr-r-nr metal thread<<the tails/legs are non res so should not burn anything, they don't heat up! Only the coil with wick between gets hot so they wont burn the bottom silica/rubber bung

Naturevape definitely uses nonres wire for the "legs" (the bit in contact with the rubber) so I can't be burnt rubber you are tasting as the wire there doesn't heat up. Vaping is a funny thing, I taste weird things no-one else does with some set ups, and sometimes it just remains a mystery. Find what you like and stick with it

I could have sworn it is rubber, I have rewicked three times now and as changing flavour do a quick dry burn on them, the coils heat up nicely but even without juice and wick there is a definite rubber smell. Maybe it is me

@mrsmac try taking the chimney off and see if the cotton wool is burnt, @pep and dragon are right these are non res/ res/ non res coils. What are you using the coil on and at what wattage?

prr every time I have rewicked, the cotton is clean no signs of burning, I get a harsh smell when dry firing the coil as well and it is the same taste I get when wicked and vaping if that makes sense. Using it on a zmax at 8.5 watts and tried two different juices

if I pick up burnt taste, normally means I'm using too high voltage/wattage for my tastes, with my itaste vv's I never managed to vape over 8. I just prefer my juice lower

Do you think 8.5 is maybe too high?

Is it possibly the cotton wool you are using? I use Boots baby essentials and have never had any weird taste. But certainly at 8.5 watts you shouldn't get burning. Scratching my head now!

You could try dropping the wattage down to 6 and then building up if you don't get the burnt taste up it again etc.

I dry burn the coils then with no cotton wool in give it a quick dunk in some water (just the coil bit) while it's still hot and they come up really good. You could try taking the CW out and putting it in a glass with some warm water and adding some bicarbonate of soda and leaving it to soak for a few hours, then rinse and rewick and try again?

Thanks prr and DiscoDes I will try the soak and try different wicking material, I am currently using the Japanese cotton which I am using in my kayfuns and other protankesq with microcoils will try my rayon and regular cotton. Failing a bath and rethink of wicking material if that doesn't work I give up! Lol

Mrsmac maybe they ran out of res/non res wire If it is a definite taste of rubber then i would say somehow the legs are heating up the rubber grommet, i think they still use the rubber grommets not the silicone grommets.
