Im using an IPV2 usually at around 8-10w with an aspire nautilus on a 1.8ohm coil & the coils only last about 3-4 days before they get all gunked up & the juice starts tasting like cardboard.....Is this right or am i doing something wrong? I did wonder if it was the juice im making ? Im using VG from Boots & 72mg PG based nicotine with flavourings from cake shops that are either PG or alcohol based. This would be my mixing for a 10ml mix Ingredient ml % of total PG or VG 6.3 63.0% Flavouring 2.0 20.0% Base Nicotine Liquid 1.7 17.0% As said after few days the juice starts to taste like cardboard & when I strip down the atty I can see the coils all gunked up....If I wack this IPV2 up to 50w & give it a few blasts it tends to clear it up after a few good puffs & tastes fine again...for a few days .....Dunno if Its a good idea blasting the coil with 50w but it seems to work Any input from you knowledgable peeps would be great :-)

It will be your flavourings. Sweet flavours in particular caramelize on the coil and form a gob of carbon. Dry burning helps but gunking is the price you pay for a sweet tooth

Coils do get gunked up over time. Sweeter juices are worst for doing this. Be carful putting 50w through a 1.8Ohm coil, you could easily pop the coil. Most will do a dry burn that involves attaching the base and coil to the mod, removing the chimney part of the coil, and giving it 2 second bursts of about 8w until it stops smoking and starts to glow red. Then reassemble and your good to go.

I do the above and I chain vape fruit/dessert flavours.... Suits me fine. Only one word of caution. Don't dry burn your coil in your room of a non smoking establishment without telling your landlord you are a vaper LOL Did that on holiday. Caused no end of stress!!!!

One other thing I've noticed is after a few hours of on and off vaping during the day , is gunk under the drip tip. I take the drip tip off , blow out the drip dip and cleaning it with a cloth and also clean the top of the protanks ( atty of choice for me , either Protank 2 or Mini Protank 2 ) . I also use heavy VG juices that are also sweet , a double hit for coils , so for my all day vapes I change the wicks and coils twice a week.Where as my pipe tobacco flavours get changed maybe once every 10-14 days even with heavy VG.

My diy custard (50/50) needs the cotton changed/ dry burn every other day usually but that does use five different flavourings. But red astaire is good for at least a couple of weeks without re wicking and I've also noticed el toro cigarillos has gotten a lot more wick friendly lately! Also a good couple of weeks before changing wicks

What you want, is a nice Genny with a mesh wick, that you can just burn the crud off, and vape away again An RSST would be a good choice

I have differing timespans with regard to coils gunking too. Red Astair will probably survive a week in a Russian before needing a dry burn and recoil, whereas my Custard Machine (a.k.a. Taifun GT) only manages two tanks before needing a good clean down. And yes, the inside of driptips harbour all sorts of nasty cruddy build-up which needs to be cleaned - cotton buds are ideal for this, especially the cheaper ones which are thinner!
