Nice one Steve. My Mum was diagnosed with this only on Friday last week. I'll donate when I get paid in the next few days.

Good luck Steve, big plastic bottles of water are good for training weights in your rucksac as if it too much or you get an injury you can just pour out the water. Great tip Thanks VB!

On the heavy side IMO Steve (VapeStorm) have a look at this old link base weights, I haven't been on this site for a couple of years but should give you a good comparison to what others do. I always walk in shoes rather than boots and find it much less tiring, they say that a kilo in weight on your foot gear is the equivalent to 5 kg in your backpack.

Thanks for the link VB very helpfull for when Im out and about In future. As part of the challenge i decided to go with a 40lb pack just for the hell of it lol. Its suprisingly comfy Just been out with the dog for a quick walk with the full pack on. I Recorded the stats on my gps total distance walked 5.85km average speed 5.4km/h Not bad I reckon! Was slowed down on the return by blisters on the backs of my heals. Ouch!

Two pairs of socks. And don't even think about getting new boots/shoes for this unless you have a month or two to break them in. Don't buy army boots unless you enjoy foot/leg damage. Soaking your feet in meths is supposed to harden them. I'll lend you some dogs if needed. Mine would tow you all the way

I have some hiking shoes but would prefer some boots for ankle support. Plenty of time to break them In not doing the challenge untill may next year. Was considering army boots, might get some anyway just for everyday wear. the boots i wore today were my old doc marten work boots. Got half way back and i could feel huge blisters on my heels. Feet are currently taped up with parcel tape its the only thing that would stick lol.

Doc Martins not for the hills If you must have boots (only use in extreme wet or worse myself, too tiring) get good light ones that fit very well (this is the time to use 2 pair of socks to check the fit swollen feet). Salomon are good & light, still prefer shoes using TheNaffFace HedgHog mainly as they fit me better than other makes I preffer. Lidl often have decent walking socks for £3 ish that would be great for May, sometimes you see them in TKMax otherwise they are pricey but make a world of difference. Not talking about thick wool socks, merino wool good for winter, its the construction that's important.

I went out for a good "tap" with my buddy yesterday, he's ex para', the topic of new boots came up, his old army hack was to pee in a new pair of boots and wear them wet to break them in before going out for a "tap".. Bluefish might be able to advise +1 for decent socks and take good blister plasters with you whilst you train!
