taz96...where I live is a fair bit from Edinburgh - no trains or buses...but I'll get a lift to the outskirts & hoof it in...it's not that bad because I'll come into Edin at that end of town ( see how keen I am )

I live in Aberdeen ....that's further away than gill2009

Don't know if I'm doing there and back in one day as yet (nicotine withdrawal) or spending the night at Ed Central youth hostel....50p return on bus

gill2009 if you get dropped off at Straighton Park and Ride opposite the retail park, the 47 Lothian bus goes from there to Salisbury Place (very near Scotch Hop) every half hour. There's shelter and seats at Park and Ride if the weather's unkind. Journey takes about 20 mins. When you get off the bus, go in the direction the bus came from and take the first road right at the crossroads, into Salisbury Place. There's building work going on on the opposite side of the street along here, big blue tunnel peeps have to walk through under the scaffolding. At the end of the road there's another crossroads with a converted church, now a lighting shop. Scotch Hop is 2 doors along

Just don't get tempted to 'pop into' Ikea at the retail park- peeps have been known to go in there and never come out...

gill2009 I thought you might have been able to get a bus, although I suspected trains would be out. misst That's a great idea for gill2009. There's you all sorted and I've still to fathom what bus I need ...oh to be organized, but I guess I'll never change at my age.

I used to do that too. Nowadays I'm more or less deskbound. I miss the travelling sometimes.
